Thoughts on new Cloak of Defiance?

so they nerfed eb to shit in order to stop people using this item so much, and at the time we told them they were going way too far, but they wouldnt listen. Now eb has been total shit for 2 years and a whole style of play, life based casters, has been fucked into the dirt for an age in order to stop so many people using this item... now they greatly buff this item... fairly strong confirmation that they went way too crazy with the eb change.

2 years later, now theyre fucking over ci the way they did eb that is still in the dirt, even more so now with the new fucking theyre giving es in general. Great balance team. But on the plus side CoD might be usable again now, so were possibly back to needing the unique chest to make the life casters, which is nice. 2 widely used keystones and playstyles in the grave and we bring back the caster problem we started with, maybe, if all goes well, thats the good possible outcome. The bad one being that the chest also remains fairly shit tier along with ci and eb.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

I feel that "Infused Shield" 15% more ES shouldnt be removed.
It just should move behind EB instead!

A pretty accurate analysis.

The old MoM/EB was good. It saw some use. It wasn't the end-of-all builds by any means, it basically allowed intelligence-heavy casters to be functional at the start of a league and in the earlygame just as strength-based casters are functional now. The way they eviscerated it was one of the fairly nonsensical changes in 2.0.

I've always suspected GGG do a lot of their changes being well aware of the consequences, they just have to change the meta to keep things fresh, regardless if it's reasonable from a mechanical standpoint or not.

I even wrote a longish post about the MtG concepts borrowed in PoE, and this constant state of flux and forced meta changes was part of it.

If this is true, and I think it is, it means the majority of the community is approaching GGG's balance changes from the wrong perspective: they think GGG want the game to be fairly balanced, the changes they make are aimed at that, and are therefore regularly astounded at the obvious imbalances introduced with each new major patch.

Nope, I don't think they want balance. I think they want a constant state of imbalance, so players have a goal to aim for - finding the strongest meta builds - and they just jiggle the details every now and then to keep it fresh. Changing the parameters of the problem, but leaving the underlying principles intact.
You have to be realistic about these things.
