Maps: They're not the problem, End Game is.
So, this is gonna be quick, and very biased because i am burnt the absolute fuck out.
Anyway Maps are the main end game of Path of Exile, we all know that... sure, you could say atziri/uber or even that lab bullshit is, but Maps are the MAIN endgame, its what we all do once we kill... crap i forgot his name, but that guy in the tower. (dont judge, i havent levelled a character in over 2 months lol) Maps was a great idea a few years ago, but now its coming to the point where, some builds can just, eat up t15s easily... I don't wanna say this, but this game needs more end game shit... this is basically how i play Path of Exile now I jump on, run 2 t10-14 maps, whatever i feel like, then jump off because its nothing but the same shit that ive been doing for the past 7k hours. Give us an alternative to end game, give us something like, a tower that we can climb, 200 floors, each floor is basically a randomly generated tileset, with random mods and bosses on it... THATS ANOTHER FUCKING THING Make maps random, i dont mean drop them randomly, but i wanna see a dunes map with a spider or some shit as the boss, i want shit to be mixed the fuck up I'm sincerely sick of avoiding some maps because of the bosses that absolutely rape your face Ugh, back to Warframe, love you all, See you in 2.3 if im still around. Twitch: twitch.tv/slayertip Helping people with their builds, its somewhat a hobby, and a passion of mine, so don't be shy! https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1715639 <--- Build help forums thread thingy. Im in disagreement.
Maps have no identity as is after a previous map change that made monster generation random rather than each map having their relative monsters. For example, Crypt used to only have undead, but then they changed it and it generates whatever the hell it ones now. I miss map identity, part of planning was ignoring maps you didnt like. If i didnt like necros raising dead i would run a map with no undead. Now im stuck with them spawning wherever they want, same with other annoying mobs like monkeys. I think Labyrinth is a good alternative to farming, not to leveling, endgame. The only beef i have with lab is lack of good layouts. The only huge beef i have with maps right now is how the mods arent relative to their difficulty. Easy as fuck mods have all the packsize and shit but the hard mods give the most asinine amount of rarity and quantity. The major thing burning me out right now isnt even maps or anything, its straight up the lack of high tier unique items that are strong and how poop melee (true melee) actually is, as its my bread and butter. If 2.3 doesnt have much i can very well see myself not touching the game again til 2.4, much like ive done in the past when i wasnt enjoying the games direction. That said, im in agreement, im peacing out from the forums/game until something good changes. Probably mindlessly play overwatch or something since its cheap. Maybe buy and play the souls games when they go on sale in a few weeks from the steam summer sale. Harvest sucks! But look at my decked out gear two weeks in! Labyrinth salt farm miner. imagine the "holy shit shock and horror is the boss of this Colosseum map" ofc, their would be no where to hide from the laser :P.
I get you though, after pushing to 95 I asked myself why I keep pushing when ill literally be doing the same thing for the last 5 levels. Just can't stomach mapping anymore. They need to stop locking bosses/tiers to tile sets. Cruel Kole is more of a threat than Arsenal Map boss (T12). +10 for that tower of randomly generated levels. |

" I know exactly how this feels tbh. When I go to new leagues my friends think Im mad because theyre pushing t13s while Im mf farming merciless docks or something, they dont get just how sick of mapping I am sometimes. Sometimes I want maps, and when I want them theyre amazing as a system, but sometimes I just want to play the game, dont want to think too much beyond getting lost in mechanical fast play, motor skills, I dont want to have to stop and think every few minutes. Having to stop, think about which map, roll it, which rolls, all these considerations, then 3 minutes later I have the same thing again, and then 3 minutes later again... holy cow, seriously... This is why people have 4 hour youtube music playlists and no one listens to vinyl singles played on a turn table any more. Sometimes I just want to grind, I dont want the stop, start, stop, start, every time you stop my flow of motor play and make me think about shit its a chance you could lose me and Ill log out, and maps are stopping me every few minutes, I cant just zone into a grind for hours just playing the game. It seems to be a different beef to you lots problems with mapping, but it results in the same desire. More endgame please, and not just more maps, stuff like endless towers, dungeons, even fixed length multilevel dungeons, whatever, something else. Doesnt have to be radical, its still mobs in zones dropping stuffs, just frame it in a different way. Its not superfluous to have many twists on simple endgame grinding, its what we do all the time. I feel like non endgame content is somewhat superfluous in a system where only 5% of my characters play time at best is non endgame content. but then the flip, cruel has to go too, and that means non endgame content to fill that gap I guess? Honestly I think endgame is so bare bones, so much effort has gone into the questing and if even 1/10th of that effort went into serious endgame grinding systems while the other 90% stayed on questing expansions they could improve so much. On a positive note, the changes to maps and zana have improved the system a lot recently. I dont feel like Im stuck on the same 5 map bases, Ive got a variety of maps which is really nice. I do like mapping, a lot, but theres a time and a place. I like the lab too honestly, but its a lvl68 zone, Im talking about logging into characters who are 88-95 and wanting to actually fight serious mobs who drop serious loot of some sort. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" You make excellent points (as usual I have to say) but this, this is exactly my feeling as well. I've been thinking a lot about this recently, thinking this is precisely why I've enjoyed Perandus so much. I've once again had a decent grind for something potentially rewarding - not just the grind itself but the feeling that I might actually be rewarded for it. I've missed that in PoE, and now I've had it albeit briefly. I'm gonna miss Perandus a lot, that's for sure. The Solaris grind has been glorious. I really, really want the old Maelström system back, or something similar like the endless dungeon/ledge concept. Zone in, grind for hours, be rewarded. Maps are fine as they are - I also enjoy mapping a lot - but we need more options and definitely ones that are less elaborate and more grindy. I'd say there's good reason why people in general love Gorge, Plateau and such. It's not just that they're efficient and (usually) easy, it's that you can totally zone out and grind them for hours. | |
Same boat here. I like to play near to 1-2 hours/day at some games. I liked PoE alot in the past few years because it was hard, challenging, fun in party (before it come fps killer). Now I login, spawn in sarn, open party tab... like why the hell I open this tab ?? since I cant play with others....anyway there are only wts/wtb/wtf partys so I join my ho, look at all these maps I got but I know I will get bored after 2 maps so I just logout for the day.
yea, I login for 10-15min doing nothing then gooodbye horses... its just sad that it end like this. Glowing green mouse cursor plz.

Endgame isn't the issue, nor are maps. The problem is your endgame character can stay in that state way to long, no matter how good endgame is if you stay too long you'll get burnt out.
Try an experiment - impose on yourself restrictions in character life duration and account wealth accumulation like some heavy ironman/rouguelike rules and see if that prevents some of that endgame perpetuation stagnation. Dernière édition par GeorgAnatoly#4189, le 17 mai 2016 à 17:33:48

I'm in a similar boat. I love theorycrafting new characters but hate leveling them. The payoff was getting to run maps when I got to endgame, but I'm so burnt out on that I don't enjoy that part for long anymore. The system you suggested sounds very similar to closed beta's Maelstrom of Chaos. I'd be interested in seeing that return in another form (no, the unique map doesn't count - cool throwback though).
Lab is a neat piece of content, and overall I like it (still think it needs some fine tuning, but that was to be expected), but it is not an end-game, highly re-playable piece of content in my eyes. |

I normally roll multiple maps at once. You know, so there's less of that start-stop nonsense.
I disagree with this thread. I personally see HUGE potentiality in a random content generation system which allows some degree of player control over random outcomes. I don't believe the right course would be to make alternative endgame content, but instead to expand upon maps. I feel the single largest issue with maps is that their affix design seems to be designed for "rolling skill" and economy, rather than designed to provide players with the greatest variety of engaging endgame content. I get that maps are loot, but maps are content, too, and with the current system the latter fact often seems to be sacrificed to the former. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.
