Is POE too easy?
" That's funny because my first character died at lvl 4 and instead of hurting my motivation, it actually made me really happy! Why? Because I knew right then that this game would be challenging instead of boring. The main thing that makes me stop playing a game is that feeling of "I don't even have to pay attention to what I'm doing because I never die" or even worse "I don't even care if I die because there is almost no death penalty". So I'm basically the opposite of a lot of people: Instead of rage-quitting hard games, I boredom-quit the easy ones. There is a fine line between challenging and frustrating though, but for me PoE hits the sweet spot of difficulty. |

It's not a hard game in particular, and I know I'm going to piss some people off with this next line, but people are kind of starting to realize the 1300+ nodes are basically a facade. Character choice--particularly in end game--is extremely limited. With the 60% resist penalty for example, you are forced to go for resist nodes, or grab gear that has those resists; it's basically like Diablo's end game all over again (yea, I said it).
Which brings us to why the end game is so easy for people that know how to build a character, which isn't difficult to begin with. When you're forced into stacking life, ES, evasion, resist, all you're doing is making sure your numbers are bigger than the monsters numbers. There's hardly any actual skill apart from finding a good build, which like I said, isn't very difficult at all. Even if you don't know how to build a character, there are templates floating around that you can copy. The biggest problem I have with the game, is the lack of actual player skill required. The amount of lag and desync that happens, makes it almost impossible at times to use reflexes to dodge attacks. Charging rhoas, rock monsters, etc., etc. The majority of my deaths comes from lag, and not player error. I'm trying not to sound too negative here, and I like the game... seriously. I'm just stating what I've observed from my perspective. I've had several character over level 60; dual wand witch, BM marauder, point blank dualist, two high level summoners. I think I also had a pure caster at some point, but it's hard to keep track. My current highest level character being a 71 summoner, and yes the game is pretty easy if the RNG is kind to you, and you have the foresight to look up/pre-plan a cookie cutter build. I haven't been around as long as some people, but I was around when there were three ways to go from your starting point, not just two. It's small things like this that make the game less about choice, and more about doing what everyone else is doing. In essence, the 'harder' you make the end game, the easier--and one could argue more boring--it actually becomes for people that know what they're doing. People will start to gravitate away from unique builds, and more towards proven, defensive builds in order to not die. This is seen in the HC league, but it's also starting to happen in SC as well. You think someone likes losing 15% of their XP and potentially a couple hours of 'work' (lol), because the monster that they clearly moved out of the way from actually hit and killed them? A final point, is I personally believe GGG are listening and gearing their game too much for the VERY small amount of 'Kripparians' of the game. When you look at what he does, and start to make your end game so difficult that only his min/max type of builds are viable, I think you're doing the system you've put in place a massive disservice. Hardly anyone has 16 hours a day to dissect a game, not everyone wants to have a paper full of formulas in order to get the most out of a game. Obviously going the other way, and making the game way too easy isn't good either, but I think GGG is starting to swing too much to one side, and that's not a good thing. So those are my thoughts on why the game is becoming easy, people are starting to realize the best way to play, and become successful in end game is to play defensively, with a build that's tried and tested *yawn*. Well when Diablo launched, Inferno was nearly impossible to progress through. I spend a lot of time trading. My big score was reselling a wand I bought for 3 Alchemy Orbs for 24 Fusings.

" I'll tell you what some pretty pro ARPG players told me when i started this genre: you make your own RNG. You are picking up the wrong types of items. Try to go for a full set of yellow unid's, that = 1 chaos. Look for 4L-5L whites, and use alchs on them. Make your own godly gears, and trade them. Pick up boots and gloves, find some with movespeed+ or IAS, trade those. Once I started realizing WHAT I need to pick up, I realized that RNG is what you make of it. |

I don't agree. It is hard to make good build to play in late game.

im guessing 120 deaths.. multiplying the claimed amount by 3 tends to be accurate.
