Discussion on Blasphemy (New Support Gem)
"Every build that wants to limit their offense maybe. I'd rather have heralds/auras and self cast or trigger gem the curses. Guild Leader The Amazon Basin <BASIN>

" This exactly. I do NOT understand the hype around this gem. Infact I belive its rather niche. I have always been using a triggered enfeeble with every build and a self-casting one at bosses. Reserving your mana for curses instead of great auras is just for lazy folks that do not care about min-max. Meta-game holds no value - Play with what you like!

I can see it working really well with Soul Taker. 1 Aura, 1 Herald, 1 Curse. Or 1 Aura, Arctic Armour and Curse. All my chars run Grace or Determination. If only I had a Soul Taker!
Otherwise with 1 Aura and a Herald OR Curse OR Arctic Armour, that would very much be situational, how offensive or defensive you need to be. There are offensive and defensive curses. Using Cyclone, you don't get the damage reduction benefit of AA. Against curse-immune bosses, you couldn't use Blasphemy (except against adds) Against standard mobs, you hardly need Blasphemy. Against lots of non-curse-immune magic or rare mobs, or bosses, that's where Blasphemy could really shine. It's also INT based, so it will suit Templar-Witch-Shadow-Scion more than the other three. So many combinations and possibilities! |

" for my CoC cyclone build, it is nice being able to cyclone everything without stopping to cast assassin's mark. it's not as simple as being too lazy to self-cast the curse. In really hard maps, the small amount of time it takes you to cast the curse can mean life and death. The utility you get from Blasphemy is worth dropping a Herald of Ice/Thunder. " All these blasphemy naysayers just don't get it. Enfeeble linked to Blasphemy is sooo much better then trigger cast enfeeble. The problem with trigger cast enfeeble is you bloody have to get hit first for it to even work. If that 1 hit is from a big phys hitter and it crits, you may have very well just died OR you just lost 80% of your HP. With enfeeble always up (outside of curse immune) not only is that initial crit chance reduced by 25% but their accuracy is also reduced by X% which means that crit that just killed you may miss you entirely. OR if the hit does land, because of the reduced accuracy when the crit rolls it may not roll crit at all. AND if the hit lands and the crit lands, that hit just did 40% less damage (when factoring in the reduced crit multi) POE is all about eliminating those 1 off deaths as much as possible. I think 97% up enfeeble goes along way to do that. Then, when you dual curse with temp chains, you reduce the chances of those one of deaths even further.
It can be good for builds that need the effects of some curse all the time, especially melee. Certainly wouldn't use it on a bow-style or other long range character.
Sources of extra curses are going to gain some value. Blasphemy-Vulnerability over Herald of Ash becomes a good option for example, maybe even a pure physical tricurse build? Poacher's and Enfeeble are also good targets for aurifying. Curse immune is going to be a pain however. Also mostly useless for party players since supporters bring the curses anyway.
+1 curse amulets will be very popular but curse immune maps is going punish your investment hard.

Blasphemy obviously isn't going to be for every build. But I worry about Warlord's Mark being nerfed a bit since it seems extremely strong in combination with Blasphemy for melee-type builds. Guaranteed endurance charges + no worries about life/mana sustain ever again? I don't know.
I'm less sold on the offensive curses, Punishment requires you to be hit and Vulnerability is decent but the bonus isn't that big. In the "might work but not overpowered" category I'm going to see if Flammability + Blasphemy will allow me to reach an easy 100% ignite chance for melee-range Flameblast. And then of course Assassin's Mark + Warlord's Mark with Discharge (not Poacher's since Blood Dance boots are easy to wear anyway). scroogetemplar / scroogewitch / scroogemarauder

" One combo I am also looking forward to testing, but not with Flameblast. I want to try Flammability + Ele Weakness for an RF build. I also want to try Flammability + HoA + Emberwake ring (is this ring in game normally? I know it was a race prize & signature race last season) + Oro's Sacrifice + Cyclone ( I know the HoA phys damage is wasted due to the sword being all fire, but the on-death ignite if you get a few enemies dying at the same time should mass stack burn damage rapidly, on top of Cyclone and a HUGE ignite chance also stacking ignite should be some good damage)
It's also not that big of a radius so I'm not sure it's as game changing as people think. It's mainly just for melee chars, and even then I think many won't bother with it.
When you're in melee range, Herald of Thunder cursing for you is pretty effective already. |
