How I got rid of PoE addiction

I don't agree with much of what you posted, but this part is absolutely true..

3) I forgot how much I enjoy well made single player game, since I've been playing PoE solely for quite a while.
After getting fed up with GGG's gating philosophy, I decided to quit PoE for a while and started picking up some game that I know I must play one day. One of them is Dragon Age - Inquisition. The game came out about 7-8 months ago and I was too into PoE back then. But as soon as I started playing, I realize how much I have missed out. To simply put, it is THE best game I have played in my life. Period.

Most importantly, while I was playing Dragon Age, I find myself enjoying so much about the fact that there is no dev that could fuck with me and my game play. There is no nerf hammer. There is no gated content. The irony is such that I was relishing this game SO MUCH because of how much PoE has traumatized me throughout the mere past 8 months, and I didn't realize until I left it.

I think this is the bane of modern day games..

Gamers love a challenge, no doubt about that, but the reasoning behind that thought is that, they want to overcome the challenge using their knowledge/skill and be proud of it.. However, when you constantly keep changing the game, posing better challenges, the whole point is lost because there will never be a point when I have beat the game.

The good old days of gaming where games were challenge, but immutable are probably a testament to this. This entire notion of developers constantly patching a game and messing with the game in the name of "balance" is slippery slope. In the beginning, it feels nice, but as time passes, you get the feeling that you are never going to beat the game, so what's the point? Endless dungeon is a great parallel to this concept. In theory, endless dungeons are awesome, since they offer pretty much infinite replayability, however, in practice, all they end up doing is bore the players since there really is no goal to aim for.

TL;DR: There is no point in attaining a goal when the goal itself keeps changing constantly.
changing metas is how poe stays relevant.
if one build could do all of content from day 1, many people whom the game caters to would quit already.

to 'never beat the game' is the point in prolonging peoples stay in poe-land. poe is meant to be a long journey. you arent supposed to play poe for 30 hours ,finish the campaign and put it down.

games also werent 'immutable'. you could do a god mode or mod anything, input cheats when you were stuck or download a trainer. Torchlight for example isnt immutable

ironically, poe is actually immutable since the server dictates the rules and there is no way for you to really twist the rules besides fiddling illegally with the client memory. you cant really cheat and beat the game illegally in poe besides RMT.
I'm just waiting for the inevitable wave of nerf bat swings to this ridiculous expac to bring it in line with a playable with ALL character choices viewpoint and not the mind set of you must have xy&z items plus skill alpha and beta on class A to kill monster 1 mindset that seems to be act 4.

dragon age inquisition is the best game you ever played ?

it isnt even the best dragon age game

I guess maybe the honeymoon phase plays a role here. I should probably say the best game I have played in the recent few years.

DA:I one of the worst games ive ever played, but to each its own.
If you want decent gameplay coupled with superb graphics you should really try witcher 3 tho, potato really gave us something great.

PoE is a pointless waste of time, but its entertaining, the problem comes when you take this game as more than an entertaining time waster, its incredibly shallow and the only real complexity comes from overspecializing your character so that you end up doing 3 or 4 things every fight ad infinitum.

If you want deeper and more meaningful gameplay from a diablo clone, id advice you to play Dins Curse, shitty graphics and music but everything else is outstanding.
PoE still has the best summoning I've seen since Diablo 2, thus I'm still inclined to continue supporting this game.

Summoning has always been an underdog, but it has persevered throughout the game's life.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.

- You WANT TO work in a group of 4 to defeat enemies, unlike GGG forces you to play in a group of 6 while your potato suffers.

That made me laugh out loud here.

On the serious side though, there is a gaming itch that poe just cannot scratch. I've said many times before its starvation desert mode in poe. Very demoralizing. I've said this time and time again and i don't think they intend to do anything about it.
I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all.

PoE is a pointless waste of time,
this doesnt really make sense
either every game is a pointless waste of time, or no game is a waste of time

who was it who said time spent enjoying something is not wasting time or something like that ?

Most games build up to something, especially rpgs, where the meta of the game usually evolves, new features crop up, or in the case of good MMOs the social aspect becomes more and more important. PoE is the same game at lvl 40 than at lvl 60 than at lvl 100 and this is in part thanks to the obsession of the devs with balance. Game breaking stuff forces things to change, looking for good balance changes them around trying real hard for them to stay the same, ergo the game stays the same. Social features are lazy at most, glorified chatrooms, masters didnt add any depth to the game, just more crap to grind, etc.

Games arent a waste of time, they entertain, they enrich your world in some ways depending on the game and what it shows you. Not PoE tho. I still find it fun and every now and then, but im not expecting anything else out of it, i know im not going to get any surprises down the line.

Shits so standardized we are talking about map clearing times, drop rates and broken builds, and thats so fucking boring.

poe is a game about grind, where efficiency is king. its a game about repetition in a genre that assumes repetition

seems like you arent familiar with arpgs or something. arpgs are very mechanical and the last thing they care about is 'suprises' and showing you 'something new' and other exposition single player stuff

every person is 'entertained' differently. you might think watching a movie and learning something is entertaining to you. well for some it's not. for some entertainment is going to the gym and punching the same fucking bag 200 times.

neither watching a movie or punching a bag are pointless waste of time. doing something you enjoy is NEVER a waste of time.

and um, the game is completely different at lvl 40 than level 95. in fact these two experiences are hardly comparable. the endgame in poe is vastly different.
when I was younger I played tetris, minesweeper, snake and solitaire.

were those games pointless waste of time ? um no. each game is different. and that's good.
