why can't skill tree points be reset?
unlimited resets would just ruin the game and rob you of any chance to feel 'attached' to your character.
I think this game is even to forgiving in giving you the full resets every few months when a challenge league ends. You can still correct minor mistakes through orbs and if you really screw up, well just reroll... at least this makes your choices feel like they matter. I loved that about D2, no respecs, nothing, it made my characters feel special... in the short time I played D3 before getting bored, every char just felt like a generic template because of the infinite on the fly changes you could make... |

Man, I wish the game was in such a state that this was the worst complaint to be had these days ;p
#1 rule of official forum boards of every video game ever: use the forums to relay info, gather suggestions, or the rare narrow-focused Poll; but NEVER as "feedback".
#2 rule: Never say the #1 rule in an official capacity. Let some guy on the forums say it, leaving yourself plausible deniability. |

It's a business decision, not necessarily what the devs think is actually fun. GGG wants you to play this game as long as possible. The longer you stick around, the more likely you are to make purchases that fund the game. The struggle (in-game grind, in all its intricacies) is real largely for this reason. The game is designed to keep you chasing carrots that seem just out of reach but aren't actually reachable for most people.

It would be nice if a "try" mode existed. Especially after passive skill tree reset. A mode, where you don't gain XP and items don't drop, until you finally confirm changes.
No to free reset anytime anywhere... just this after skill tree reset. | |
It really isn't that hard to respec your character. Regrets are plentiful and you get a fair chunk of regret from the side quests as well.
If that wasn't enough, they hand out tree resets like candy at every major patch. That or just, make a new one. That is the best way. Take your old character out back and shoot them. "Danger is like jello, there's always room for more."

I'm a bit out of topic here but, isn't there a contradiction between willing to feel attached to your chars and deleting them if they're screwed up ?
On topic : free respecs would make the game easier (respec for each boss/ zone ?) and standardize the builds even more. |

If you want to try builds for free keep a couple of each gem, and one of each class on standard. Then when the new tree is released you have free toons to experiment on.
I currently have 15-18 experimental toons on standard. There comes a time thief when jewels cease to sparkle, gold loses it's luster, throne room becomes a prison, and all that's left is a father's love for his child. - King Osric
