" I think you are too hung up on the 6 white sockets. Sockets can always be recolored through Vorici and a few pidlly Vaal Orbs will not break the bank. I'd prefer a +1 to gems on it. And, once the T0 mods hit in 2.0 the item will be soooooo yesterday. Dear Maligaro,
I left my head in San Francisco, I lost my legs in Peru My liver and kidney are on holiday in Sydney And I am sending my Heart to you --- Love, Malachai |

One interesting thing to note here... Is that to get close to a perfect item... It basically requires it be crafted through the eternal-exalt cycle... And in the end, that only winds up being practical when done with the intention of selling mirrored copies.
Mirrored copies means that the supply is up, which means the value... Goes down. Sure, the original base item may have inestimable value on account of it being a money-maker, but its value is no longer attached to its worth as a piece of gear, when you could just get a copy colored however you need for a low price of a mirror + some exalts for a fee. This winds up suggesting a "hard cap" for the ultimate upper value of a rare item. Of course, there ARE some exemptions to the above. One, of course, is corrupted items, since using a Vaal and using a Mirror are mutually exclusive. Also, crafting an item for mirroring relies on picking out an item type that has enough demand to make it pay off: hence why we have "Loath Bane, Ambusher" and "Glyph Mark, Harbinger Bow," but, say, no mirrored perfect (or near-perfect) 2-handed maces. If, going off of that route, then perhaps the highest theoretical value for an item would likely have to be a staff. While none of the Vaal implicits that staves can roll would be particularly jaw-dropping, (oh, if ONLY they could roll +1 gem levels!) getting the appropriate elemental leech that lines up with a cumulative +3 levels to specific gems, (or POSSIBLY a +1 max power charge) could still lead to an uncommonly rare item that would, if it ever DID come into existence, command probably too high a price to reasonably sell. It'd be a combination of two prefixes for +3 levels to either fire/cold/lightning, +110% spell damage, (+3 gems > Hybrid mod) and suffixes for Cast Speed, Spell Crit, and Crit Damage. While some mirrored near-perfect examples exist for lightning and especially cold... There's no such staff that even HAS all those mods for fire... And none that are Vaal'd rather than mirrored.
