Microtransaction prices - a bit too high?
Todays discussion about mtx announcements reminded me about a topic I wanted to discuss for a while. Now, I've spent a considerable amount of money on this game, but I've never been one to obsess over offered micro-transactions - I usually get something interesting when I see it on the sale and that's about it. I get points through purchases of packs, and I spend them little by little.
The recent upgrade to Warriors pack had me thinking I could buy considerable number of desired micro-transactions with the 100$ I'd just spent. I was actually surprised to see that not only could I not get all the desired micro-transactions, I could get only few of them, and would have to choose very wisely which ones to get. Honestly, look at some of these prices: ![]() I mean, you can get some quite good games for 20 bucks, and we are talking about getting one mtx here for that amount of money. I have a feeling if this was offered by any other company, and not GGG, the consumers would tear them a new one. But since GGG has had (and still has) such a positive image in the eyes of the community, we let it slide. But still, 10-20 bucks for one mtx? 25$ for a weapon effect? As a reality check, list of Steam games under 20€. Am I the only one that thinks mtx are over-priced? Don't get me wrong, I don't mind supporting GGG, that's why I'm already on the third pack, and will take the fourth one when it becomes available, but these prices are just crazy. „I don't give a fuck if it was his tenth anniversary with his goddamn neckbeard...“ „If they think I'm going to let them sweep this pizza guy thing under the rug...“ No mod action. They're not too high. They just need to be renamed from "Microtransactions" to "Transactions."
Look, man. Video games are hard, okay?

None of these are essential to the game so they can price it however they want. I've bought quite a few mtx because I enjoy the game and wish to support them. This is their only source of income, if they made it too cheap they would not make much.

I think the price comes with the small target audience. If GGG would have more customers, it could be easier to supply cheaper MTX and still make enough money.

" true, but cheaper price = more buyers who buy more. and it's not like GGG have costs delivering the MTX to the customer. more shiny stuff for less price is good for both the players and the devs. Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat

" Lowering prices to attract more customers is risky, and a difficult step for any business owner to take. In the long run, it's always the right decision, but I think they'll work on polishing up the product before making a big push towards increasing their player base. Look, man. What would be the point of microtransactions if everybody could afford them, I believe that most of the purchases made are because buyer wanted to make his/her character stand out in the crowd. Current prices could offer this and that's the reason I think current pricing is meaningful.

" shipping and production costs. MTXes have none, therefore GGG can pretty much put any number they think of as a price tag. Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
