POE for mac

You interpreted the statement in your own way. People who buy macs usually are misinformed - because Apple loves to misinform them. Macs are good at specific things, but too many people believe they are overall better at tasks they simply aren't suited for.

Source? or did you just pull that out of a hat? Or do you know the majority of people who buy macs? Are you omniscient? Because to me it seems like a statement that you implied to be fact is just speculative propaganda. People who run windows usually make up statistics that are almost always 77% wrong.

I run windows so I'm allowed to say this.

LMAO at this.

Windows is fine, OSX is fine.

I love that my Macs will run whatever I tell them to and -always- work.

I love that people that own macs think their computers are secure.

I love that people that own macs will pay sooooo much money for low end technical specs.

Back to topic, it will be a very very long time, if ever, before you see GGG port it.

I have had my iMac for years, hands down better than any standard Windows PC.....oh and guess what, I play Windows games as easily as I would with OSX/Windows game (like Dragonage). VMware fusion/Parallels is the way to go. I dont trust bootcamp, partition my drive hell no.
Thank you for proving mine and anubite's point.

Thanks for the, uh, help but I finally found a way to make this work for my mac. I think. Well, I hope this thread doesn't become a heated debate b/w mac and windows users..
I would like to offer some help to the OP if they are still having problems running PoE on their Mac, or to anyone else who would like to run PoE on their Mac without having to run dual boot.

If you download the PlayOnMac client from this website it will install everything necessary to play PoE on your Mac quick and easy.

-Off topic-

The computer is only as secure as the operating system. When I'm boot-camped I tend to be hyper vigilant about security. Running security programs natively in the windows operating system is FAR more secure that running any security through Parallels. Parallels is an emulator, there are many attacks that can seriously mess up your drives and OSX. On top of that, running through Parallels (an emulator) means double processing time for the code. Start in parallels, convert to OSX, calculate/process, feed back to parallels, display. (slow as crap)

Well, in fact, any time you run Windows you put your hardware at risk - if you are not careful. Boot-camped or otherwise.

It is true that Macs suffer far less from malware, the reason behind that is the UNIX based structure of OSX. No hooks. For example, some files, like .dll files, in windows bypass the normal security measures, thus faster. Malware replaces/adds .dll files to take over/modify your box.

However that is also the main reason there are so few cutting edge games produced for the Mac. Hooks = speed, at the risk of security. It takes plenty of time and money to produce a game for the Mac for several reasons, on top of the simple fiscal reason that there will be fewer customers in the Mac world than the PC world, due primarily to the cost of the hardware. most kids can scrape together a PC gaming rig for under $700 that can do a decent job for a year or two. A MacPro starts at $2500 but will last you 4-5 years.

-On topic-

Getting back to POE, the MAJORITY of the players that will be playing this wonderful game live in the PC world, the remaining 5-10% will have to run windows in some manner on their non-PC hardware. Given the even if I'm off by 10% and fully 20% of the players are Mac Client users, that is still not enough reason to invest ANY programming cycles to making a Mac Client.

Thus, it's cool that there are efforts to make the game run natively in OSX by people that have nothing to gain from their efforts other then recognition and admiration. ;-)

I think this is a misleading comment. Mac OSX is a fine operating system, but, because Apple has draconian control over what hardware it can run on and because all models of Mac are using low-tier, overpriced hardware, A MacPro is going to have the same life span as your average $400-$800 USD gaming rig - if it's used for gaming. Though, lifespan is a very vague term. There are apple computers from the 1980's that are still in working condition at schools and businesses. This does not mean they are necessarily good computers, as they probably cannot do things you would expect a modern computer to do... but it depends solely upon what you want to do with said computer. If you're teaching children with ancient software, it's fine. If you're just checking email and surfing the web, a computer from 2005 is still fine.

I'm not saying Macs are bad, but that Apple's business practices are deplorable. It is a fine Unix-based OS, but don't be mistaken, the hardware you're forced to use it with is subpar. I spent $800 this year on a new PC and it will last me 4-5 years for my usage at least, but I am not interested in doing complex computation, running all my games on ultra, upgrading my OS, or staying up-to-date with the latest whatever. I was gifted macbook pro last year and I killed my processor's heat sink doing a recursive computation for my math class (mostly a user error on my part, but that shit shouldn't happen).

If you want to play games, you should be on the PC. At least for now. Maybe this will change with Valve moving to support Linux, but regardless, if you want to play cutting-edge games, macs will always be far behind, because of the hardware.

Macs/Linux will probably get more mainstream support in the future, given the rise in portability of programs and games and the expansion of the market.

@anubite

It is not always about how much oomph the hardware has on paper - more like how the operating system can make use of the hardware. I dare to say that OS X makes better use of hardware than anything.

Sure, if the only thing you do with a computer is playing then Windows is a better OS. Probably. When it is run on a Mac ;)
