I have a feeling there is some kind of entropy counter in place for boss farming. I notice that when I just start my farming runs for the day, I usually get 2-3 uniques withing the first 10 runs or so, then it starts dropping off to maybe 1 drop in 10-15 runs. Then, every few hours, I get random streaks of 3+ unique drops in a row, then back to none for a while.

As for portal costs: spend the 2-3 chaos and get a portal gem.
As for wisdom costs: vendor alterations or transmutes, you get 2 and 4 wisdoms respectively. Alternatively, spend a little time in trade chat and buy wisdom scrolls in bulk, it's like 120 scrolls per chaos (which is 16 alterations). Alternatively, do several runs where you don't ID the rares, and just vendor them for 5 transmute shards each; evey 4 rares = 4 wisdom scrolls.

Side note: I'm currently leveling a new character (a ranger) so I'll probably only do a bit of boss farming for the next few days. I farmed Cruel Hillock several hundred times (enough times to fill up 30 stash tabs with rares) and I got ~250 alterations, a few alchs and chaos, ~100 augmentations, and:

I feel sure that they've done some kind of ninja nerfing that impacts the boss farming players.

I started doing this after watching gnomewizards success, and i had a ball..... for a while.

My stats are currently 493 iir and 302 iiq (i use 6 accounts, so 52 iiq if you disregard this fact).

It seems to me that the first run of the day often yields 2-3 uniques, and after that the result is abysmal :(

Randomly i'll get a double or triple drop, but they are RARE. even the single drops are few and far between. And with my stats, they really shouldn't be!

I've looked for an explanation on the forums and in the patch notes, but i can't find anything definitive, so all i've got to base my claim on is my own experience. People can shout RNG as much as they want, but i think the odds of my experiencing such a dramatic drop in, well, drops (:)) are really really really small. So my conclusion stands: They've done something to reduce drop rates for boss farmers since the glory days of gnomewizard and skyfoxy :)

I recently graduated from normal merveil runs to cruel merveil runs, but i see no difference there, except it takes me much longer to complete each run, so i "earn" a lot less.


Tips:

The real income from these runs are not from the uniques. It's from identifying yellows and selling them to the vendors for alts, alchemys and transmutations. And as such it's more logical to run normal merveil compared to cruel/merciless merveil. Even if you are farming for a specific unique that only cruel/merciless merveil can drop, you are probably better off farming her in normal and then buying the unique from trade chat.

If you're having a hard time keeping up with scrolls, then go back and pick up blues to sell unidentified. That gives you transmutations which you in turn vendor for wisdom scrolls.

Do NOT sell alts for wisdoms as a previous poster suggested. It's a big loss! Currently you can get around 80 scrolls of wisdom for an alch/fuse and 160-240 scrolls for a chaos (depending on seller and buyer), and since you can buy a chaos for roughly 20 alts (again depending on seller and buyer) it seems obvious to me that selling an alt orb for 4 scrolls is not the way to go :)

*edit* Oh yeah, also: buy a portal gem!! I've seen them sell for anywhere from 2-6 chaos, but whatever you pay, it's worth it in the long run. Never ever sell wisdom scrolls for portal scrolls. It's a no no :)

*another edit* If you're still having a hard time keeping up with scrolls, this is what i spam in trade:

"WTB 80 wisdom/portal scrolls = 1 alch/fusing, 40 armorscraps = 1 alch/fusing, 20 whetstones/transmutation orbs = 1 alch/fusing. Buying stacks upon stacks..."

If you "spam" this message when you get back to town after every merveil kill, you will more or less NEVER run out of scrolls. Trust me! I was afraid of running out for a while, so i spammed quite eagerly, and this resulted in me having to sell somewhere between 5-10 inventories full of wisdoms scrolls to other farmers. They simply come in faster than i can use them :)


Other tips just in case you guys are not aware:

You can purchase alteration orbs from nessa in act 1 at the cost of 4 augmentation orbs each.

You can purchase jeweller orbs from yeena in act 2 at the cost of 2 alteration orbs each.

You can then purchase fusing orbs from her at the cost of 4 jeweller orbs each.

The vendors never run out of these orbs :)

Also, you do not need to have these orbs in your inventory. If they are in your chest it's good enough. You'll still be able to buy what you want. (good going GGG).

I realize this info is known to most of you, maybe even all, but i figured i'd post it just in case :)

+1 for noticing a huge decrease in drops lately. RNG gonna RNG but it does seem strange. On the other hand, my friend runs far less IIR/IIQ than me and seems to get 2-3 unique drops an hour consistently. I'm starting tohave this weird theory that maybe too much rarity overrides uniques, and just gives "rares"

As an update to this thread, I'm currently leveling another character to replace my old MF'er; Once I get a few more levels, I'm going to give Cruel Merveil a few runs to see if my gear and such is sufficient to safely kill her rapidly. If so, I'll try loading up multiple clients and seeing how that goes. If all goes well, I'll be fixing up the initial post and will get back to updating this post with new run records.

i am pretty sure they nerfed merveil drops lately and i try to farm other bosses , piety normal has been giving the best results till now but nothing like the good old merveil , oh well REEEEEEP :D
