Even then, endgame defenses are still way too inconsistent for the most part either way. On a tanky build, the only things that should kill you are things that you yourself caused in some way. Like map mods, or trying to facetank the Uber Ultra Death Beam. Not a random tiny bug exploding.

I agree the general progression is very binary. You struggle with defenses in campaign cause the gear you can equip is level locked and mostly bad. Then you hit level 65 - 75 (depends on what armor you want) and you finally have enough points on the tree to do both damage and defenses, and the amount of defenses on the gear skyrockets and then you just take like 10 ex to trade for some basic crap and it's like a switch is flipped and your character has 3x the survivability.

In general I feel the level gating in the game is too high and I wish they'd rely more on stat points to determine if you can equip something than levels.

Brutal for spell casters as well if you want to use the spell that the wand/staff gives you, cause a level 20 weapon spell requires level 90 whereas a martial weapon user can get a T15 worthy weapon at like level 65.
