Giga-Nerf Blood Mage, life on hit, life regen and life leech in Patch 0.4.0
" Agreed. And then stand or die on that hill. |

" It's the first one. People who can't engage on the substance will resort to going after the motives of the person disagreeing with them. I think it would be fun if everyone had an in-game button labeled "generate unlimited divine orbs". It would be so much fun, I don't know why people would be against it, except to ruin my fun. |

" Player economy: I’ve played more games than I can count, and in none of them was “time invested” more important than “strategy invested.” Strategy always generates more value than raw hours. Farming 14 hours a day won’t earn you what a player makes who actually understands the economy. In every game with trading, someone with a smart strategy and a bit of starting capital will always out-earn someone who only grinds maps even if that grinder plays all day. You don’t make currency simply by clearing maps slightly faster. You make currency by understanding the economy itself — flipping, crafting, targeting niches, exploiting supply/demand, or farming what the market actually values. A single overpowered build never “dominates the economy,” even when it’s extremely strong temporarily. Do faster builds make more currency per hour? Sure but faster doesn’t equal better. Many players dump tens of thousands of currency into hyper-fast builds only to die at level 100 because they lack defenses, losing most of their investment and resetting their progress. You can be rich, fast, and still go broke instantly. Strategy wins, not raw clearspeed. Build diversity: Your argument about build diversity actually loops back into the economy, not diversity itself. The only meaningful overlap between the two is this: If a build becomes too popular, traders naturally focus on that build’s gear. That means the market becomes oversaturated with items for the top meta, while niche classes see far fewer items listed. That’s not “broken balance.” That’s just supply and demand — exactly like real life. On nerfs: I’m not arguing for “no nerfs ever.” That would be absurd. But repeatedly nerfing everything popular only shrinks the player base. A better long-term philosophy is: Identify what makes the strong builds feel good Bring other classes up to that level, or close Preserve fun instead of deleting it This increases: build diversity the active player base the health of the economy and overall engagement The number one killer of any in-game economy is not “overpowered builds.” It’s no players — as anyone who’s tried trading at the end of a League in PoE or PoE2 knows. |

" They don't do it because this isn't an mmo like wow or something where you try to cheese something by bringing in nothing but tanks and healers and taking an hour to kill stuff. I get the idea but my first follow up question would be, at what time do you do it? 10 minutes is normal enrage for wow. Obviously that doesn't work so 5 min? 2? 1? It wouldn't work unless all the builds and bosses were balanced to an extreme for each tier. If there is an enrage all low dps tank builds become useless. Hardcore instantly becomes destroyed. It would only lessen the already very limited pool of builds that can complete all content. I understand Johnathan stated he doesn't want people to be immortal and have his bosses he spends so much time on hit like wet noodles and be disrespected. But what we have now is the complete inverse. Kill so fast no mechanics even happen. My question is, why cant both be possible and why does he take offense to it? His logic for the dps is we don't see all the hard work put into the boss animations and move sets but on the other hand a tank build will see them all but he doesn't like that either. To achieve this middle ground he wants then all low performing/picked skills/builds need massive buffs before nerfing becomes an option. The double speak and lack of action or action being completely against what was said has created the problem we have now. Deadeye is the perfect example. They buffed the already most played class/build while nerfing low pick ones. It makes no sense. So to sum it all up, things like enrage wont work until mass buffs happen and things like resistance to throttle dps is the most annoying mechanic out there (Look at LE). LE did it and its hated. At least they did it as a degrading shield so you can stop damage and it will eventually go away. |

" Alright so if you want me to repond to you, be sure to tag me in your post. Okay so we agree that clear speed equates to more wealth, which means more people will play them, which means the monsters must be balanced with that build in mind, which means fewer builds can compete with the standard balanced for. I didn't say it was the most important variable, only part of the equation. In fact I said it was minor compared to the problem of how instant life regen results in more monster one-shots as counter-play, but you asked for an elaboration. " Okay. Then how about we leave blood mage alone, and then of course we will need to have monsters one-shotting their entire hit pool frequently enough to not make the content trivialized, and then we can just increase every other build's defenses by 10x so that they do not have to be subjected to one-shots if not using the blood mage's magnitude of life regeneration. To deal with the new balance, we can just offer every ascendancy in the game (besides Blood Mage) a +20,000 life pool. To deal with the massive increase in incoming damage from monsters. It's even "thematic", it's like the blood mage is sacrificing their life pool to the blood magic gods or w/e. The Blood mage will feel like trash, but only because we buffed everything else. And please don't ask for them to be nerfed, because 'ma fun'. K I think we wrapped this up. " If the combat philosophy is to be invincible until you encounter a damage spike that one-shots you, the combat sucks and the game deserves to die. " If that amount of life regen results in a monster balance that relies on one-shots to kill you, then the game is dead. So kill the ascendancy. Also don't be dramatic, they can rework it to not depend on a bad mechanic. |
