Yea i agree with OP. Rares are the main income in this game and loot source, and on another note, i needed them for azmeri spirits. Now i dont know should i let spirit posses the rare or kill it and juice the spirit some more if theres more rares left. Now i might just offscreen wipe rares and wont be able to do the posses mechanic. Dont really care about bosses being 5x more durable unless they have 5x oneshot mechanics. Also i doubt that boss drops will compensate the rares. Tower and tablet changes looks very good but if we compare possitives of this patch with no rare icons id say this patch isnt worth it and id refuse it if i was able to.

Bring back rare monster icons, please.
We went from

"I can't believe I have to kill all the rares to complete a map, such a boring objective i quit until they fix this"

To

"Wow why did you take away my ability to quickly chase down every single rare that I so desperately want, no, need to kill. I quit until they fix this"

I really hope nobody from GGG actually reads this. It must be maddening.

The fact people are advocating that staring at minimap icons somehow translates to good game design is just baffling.

I doubt that many would advocate both.

Personally I would like to turn this on or off in settings which would make everybody happy.

I also like the either or option mentioned earlier (either kill boss or all rares to complete map).
GGG should not even add this in 0.2, because they couldn't easily take it away now.
Though in other ARPGs you won't see these icons, and it really ruins the discovery of the map gameplay. Its almost the same as haing discovered map at the begining.
These Icons makes you play minimap game istead real game, and the fact that current screen clutter prevents you to see anything on the screen is a major problem, and rare icons is not a correct solution to this, more like temporary workaround.

Hopefully in 0.4 they'd make better map design so you shouldn't backtrack to clear all rares, but not showing them either.

Also this could be a loot problem as well, i mean the root cause you need all rares clear that loot drops difference between white mobs and rares is too huge. White mobs should be buffed significantly and their drop as well, so you should fight both "crowd" of white mobs and need aoe skill for that and big-fat-rare with single target skills. And have good loot from both encounters. And instead "clearing" corners it just would be better to start next map.
It occurs to me, I wonder how many wisps were missed because people were bypassing every bit of map that wasn't directly on route to the visible rare icons.
Wisps, strongboxes, rogue exiles, just anything that wasn't the league mechanic you added and didn't spawn between you and the next rare icon.
We need to restore the previous number of items and skulls on the map. Without this, there's no sense of reward and it's harder to navigate the map.

That is correct, as soon as you have indicators on the map, you stop exploring map and ignore everything else and miss most of it. Although the map layouts... Seem to be too repetitive.
