PoE2; The game VS the farming/casino sim

+1 to the OP.

Current game state is very unfinished and its not clear what its meant to be.

From 1-year teasers, and all hype around 0.1, most of skills and overall mob and player design its meant to be souls-like, challenging, slowere paced non-poe1 game with hardcore mechanics like closing maps after death.

But looks like they pushed too hard by the poe1 fans in patch 0.2 so they nerfed bosses and mobs and extremely overtuned packsize (instead mob power) on maps and added league mechanics with timers and tons of random mobs swarming at you - abyss, deli, breach.
First few additions and patch 0.2 was very different (wisps and rogue exiles) which fits slower and meaningful combat but now these mechanics are very underwhelming - both wisps and rogue exiles not even close to the abyss profit.

Currently GGG seems to want to test limits / trying different strategies and looks like they are trying to please both crowds - meaningful combat soulslike slow game (me here) and PoE1 zoomer blaster fans.

I personally don't get why they need to make a PoE1 clone, if theres already one good game for that, receiving updates and leagues. And it does zoomy endgame way better with so much more content and better performance, so don't see any reason to be like that in PoE2.

I Like PoE1, i spent almost 4k hours there, but i think im getting to old for that kind of speed and shit happening on the screen and i just want more engaging different game from PoE2.

We will see what it become on release.

I'm almost done with the campaign experience (aka. the game) this league and like everyone else has said already, the game is all too easy. Previous leagues felt much better in terms of challenge and as consequence felt as a much more rewarding experience. Just fyi, I'm not playing meta or using a guide.

Legit question here. Why don't you play HardCore if you want a challenge instead of playing on normal difficulty?

If I had a coin every time someone said hardcore or ssf....

It happens a lot that people say the game is "easy" and they don't have a character above level 70 and each one has a minimum /deaths of 10.

HC is at least verifiable evidence that a player knows how to best the content.

SSF verifies that they know their way around the itemization mechanics and don't just pay for boss kills.

HCSSF combines it.

It doesn't mean that either of those aspects can't exist in a SC trade league, it's just not enforced, so progression can be easier.

So when they say the game is "easy", it can be because they're circumventing difficult parts of the content.

Hardcore doesn't make the game harder... neither does SSF... it just makes it more tedious....
"Sigh"
Unfortunately many gamers and game devs believe that tedium is difficulty.

I think we can safely ignore the addicts saying "PoE2 is not the game for you". They are just a loud minority.

GGG knows where the money is - in addictive, but sane gameplay. The PoE1 gameplay is insane - a dopamine pump with pulsating lights. It was a mistake and gamers want none of it.

PoE1 is great game, its silly to deny that. It has tons of content, tons of fun builds and plenty things to do.
But it is old and power creep is real especially with frequent updates.

The entire point for poe2 is to be different , to eat the second part of arpg community, who dont evem try the poe1 due to its overspeed cluttered gameplay.

And they are going to do async leagues in both games so people can play both games if they like both.
Or play at least one of them.

Both crowds will pay money and GGG will be the king of the arpg genre.

Currently they either paniced due to negative reviews from poe1 crowd / streamers in 0.2 (i dont get why they keep listening to poe1 streamers, while they need different streamers for poe2, like that dark soul guy they hired)
or they just trying different things, testing environment and monitoring the market.

Earlier before this patch they said they could have make the game a bit too easy. Probably thats connectes with the free weekend, who knows...

Great points, I agree with everything.

I get where you’re coming from. PoE1 has its own identity with fast, zoomy gameplay, so I don’t really see the point of trying to copy that in PoE2 either. If PoE2 is supposed to be slower and more deliberate, then it should lean into that instead of trying to please both sides. Mixing the two directions just makes it feel confused right now.
