Expectations of mirror/portal gem

So I've been playing PoE a lot for the past few months. This means at least a few hours every night with some binge sessions on the weekends. I've never found a mirror which I kind of expected, but I've also never found a portal gem. I've had a friend find 3-4 portal gems in about the same play time, and he also found one the very first day.
Does anyone have a clue about how much play time I should expect to put in to acquire either of these two drops? |

Statistically it is a function of time. There are things such as confidence intervals that can estimate a time period in which something will happen. These items are part of this game. I should realistically expect to experience them if I continue playing the game, correct?

" Yea, but to get a statistical confidence, you need a lot of samples. If you were to play 100,000 hours, you still wouldn't find enough of these items to have a reliable sample size. I don't need to play 100,000 hours. I just need 100,000 people to play an hour. GGG already has the data. I hope they have their drop rates so that people can expect drops of these items within 1000-2000 hours of game-play. I know games like this have to have super rare items, but currency or crafting items should have some sort of expected drop rate.

If you're wanting some data, in my 1000 or so hours, I've found: 0 Mirrors 0 Portal Gems 0 Exalted Orbs 1 Divine Orb 3 Gemcutter's Prisms No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.

i rarely get quality gems drop but i got a quality portal drop, i laughed hard lol |

" I don't believe that you have played 1000 hours... I have horrible luck compared to some people and between 500 and 1000 hours played. I've found 2 exalts, 4 divines, and around 10 GCPs. In a thousand hours of play I should expect to at least have a 50% chance of dropping all currencies I would think. That's just my opinion though! |
