Well done Devs, you killing crossbow playing style...

I've been playing ARPG games for almost 3 decades. This game completely changed the philosophy of every standard rule. Players with a crossbow play style feel regret every moment they spend in the game and I'll break down why!

1) Crossbow and Bow are both two-handed weapons, but only the bow benefits from the quiver bonus. Why not give us the option to put a backpack on the second hand that will boost the crossbow like it does with the bow??? It's not fair and you know it!

2) Thirty years have passed since the first ARPG games came out and in all the ones I played (which is more than 40 games) the crossbow damage was at least double and in some of them it reached three times the bow damage. And I'll ask you again, do you hate crossbow style gameplay??

3) What is the difference in time between putting your hand on your shoulder and pulling an arrow to bring it forward and trying to shoot it to find an accurate target versus putting a hand on your belt and reloading the crossbow with a new bolt to hit??? So why force crossbow players to spend a wasted passive point for a better reload time and not force bow players to do the exact same move??? Seeing bow players kill bosses in 1.5 seconds while crossbow players need at least 40-60 seconds, you shouldn't allow them to avoid the reload time of a bow!

4) As I said, I spent many hours playing ARPG games since 1990 that supported crossbow style attacks, and each game had a special ability (skill) that made them unique and more fun. In POE2 it seems like a distant dream to see something like that. Why on staffs and not crossbows???

5) Playing in the crossbow style, I'm thinking about how to increase HP points (there's no point in discussing increasing Shield points, it's a big failure) without spoiling the plan of increasing resistances, maximum damage and penetration, I realized how bad job you've done on passive skills especially on the Mercenary side. Seeing players with 12k shields and seeing players hitting with bows like there's no tomorrow, I wonder what's left for the poor crossbow to be proud of?

6) Oooh I forgot sorry, there is something that crossbows should be proud of. Grenades!!! And guess what, you have killed it by adding safety time, making us spend more wasted passive points over and over again, as there are so many to use!!!

In coclusion one is for sure. If you bring a patch without a serious work to anything related with crossbows, the quitting from this class would be a general phenomenon when players would realize the injustice in the balance.

You could replace "crossbow" with "2h mace" in your final statement and a lot of folks would be +1'ing this thread already.

If the ascendency being added is for some kind of ballista merc then maybe their idea is to compensate crossbow users with turrets and minions. But then why wouldn't you just use the turrets and minions with a wand and spark?

every 2H but Bow Quiver sucks compared to Dual Wielded stuff.

Nobody is going to use 1h maces on endgame when there is Giant's Blood. Except for that unique mace for summoners, obviously.

Shield has been almost mandatory for mace builds currently on endgame. Specially on HC. They usually swap to a second set with two 2h maces only for HoTG, but most of the gameplay is done with 2h mace + shield. Shield block is so broken in this game for classes without evasion, like Titan. And it has been hard to stack life in this game, so a shield improves it with flat life on its prefixes and, at least, 2% maximum life as a soul core socket.

Also, we have to mention QStaff, which is vastly used for Monks. It is the most used type of weapon according to poe2.ninja's data.
I only played the crossbow until about lvl 25 or 30? Anyway yeah it didn't feel great. Was too slow or something. Grenades definitely felt slow. With the existence of faster skills i couldn't help but switch to different weapon.

Whats kinda funny is that the idea is that its a big 2 Hand weapon that hits harder than a bow. But IRL crossbows were adopted bc of their ease of use and less strength required to wield them. They even had a leverage tool in some designs for cocking it. Meanwhile the bows kept getting bigger and required years of strength buildup to properly operate. I'll just pretend it's a small ballista he took off the mounts. Doesn't mean anything i guess in a fantasy game but funny to me personally.
