Ridiculous Experience penalty in POE2
Exp penalty is not logically viable even in poe1, with death threats being out of player control, in poe2 it becomes even more fun: they had barely begun fixing bugs and balancing skills/mobs, but penalties are already in full swing.
It is like paying house bills for a house with no roof:) |

On top of this extreme 'penalty' are the 'special'/'unique' maps, that if you fail, that's it, no retry, that's just messed up & way to harsh.
As was stated earlier in the thread, who has the absurd amount of hours to grind to get to level 100? That's not necessarily my end goal (I'm at 93 & what a slog that was).... But creating a mechanic where one tiny mistake on a boss equals insta-death & a massive hit to XP (unless you have the requisite Omen, which helps to the tune of 75% reduced loss only) it seems overly too difficult to progress. pretty sure poe2 lost me for good despite my early support. i'm on these forums as the new Elder Scrolls Online update downloads but after waiting for years i'm not going to settle for using my time on POE2. Does the exp penalty need to be removed completely? I'm not so sure about that, but the end game is a poorly balanced mess. I do know, however, that if there had been no exp penalty at all, then I would still be playing 6 hours a day. Instead, I've quit, and I can't imagine that GGG can make improvements significant enough for me to ever return. I sure hope that they surprise me, but I've learned not to hold my breath in the gaming world.

" You are taking that risk, if you've progressed through 90% of a level and decide to do risky content that could lose you exp, that's your choice that you have made. It's not the recommended way to level, how about grind out that last 10% then go do all the risky content, I can guarantee you'll have a much better time! |

" What I do is make a plan. At level 92 I'll go after the breach boss. Then when I hit 92 I turn off my omen of amelioration (which reduces the xp penalty to 2.5% instead of 10%) and do the boss. Then I level to 93 with plans to fight X other boss next. Rinse and repeat. I think it would be wise for GGG to make the omen a "no loss of xp on death" item. Then give everyone a free one when they finish the campaign as a quest reward. With a small tutorial on its use, how to activate it, etc. And keep them as rewards for rituals just as they are now. That's a great idea. The campaign needs a really special award for completing it.

I haven't been past 93 at all so far, I've had maybe 10 or so to level 90 and that's enough, couple of them can clear all content etc
The pain you describe is NUTS theres absolutely no need for them to make the levels that long it's just lazy on their behalf for having such low monster level in comparison - when you boost a map to 16/17/18 with +levels it should massively increase the experience gain from them, massiveeeeely! They're all over the show with their "lets have races, speed through campaign! Speed through to level 80 within 10 hours but then once you hit 90 my boy, its pain time" I don't get it. |

" BS it's not the recommended way to level. With the way things are the only way to gain a minimum of xp gain in the few last level IS by taking the risk to go with high level, high density and Xp bonus. |
