POE2 currently misses the right balance...

Well first big thing here is SSF. They're not going to make it feel worth your time because then a lot more people would play it. I would. That means they split their playerbase.

They consider when a player is crafting they're doing so for everyone. Personally I think their power allocation is way off. They're using addictive behavior as a means to keep the player going instead of giving them something more direct to work on to improve their character.

That's why I wrote that I play "some kind of SSF"....Because I like to play with friends together we have to play on the trade server and we also use the ingam currency market (having to find 1000s of the same Essence for certain crafts by ourself would be beyond insane, we all have a life beside gaming ^^).

We only don't buy BIS items on poe.trade and rather try to "craft" (better said gamble) them on our own and only trade between each other if someone finds something good for the build of the other.

My suggestion should not be SSF exclusive and would fit in all versions of the game....think I didn't communicate it well enough, sry. :)

ANd with the crafting part I'm totaly with you, agree 100%....that's why I came with the idea of "Greater Exalted Orbs" and "Greater Chaos Orbs".

Currently we have to pick up 100ts of white & blue bases to "gamble" them and throw them away if the gamble fails....what happens 99,999999999% of the time.

With my idea with "GEOs" and "GCOs" we have more options to "work on" a gear piece and don't have to throw them right away if something bad rolls.

And with my suggestion trading would still be the best and probably cheaper way to get BIS gear, but it would give player more option to obtain BIS gear beside trading.....esp for those who don't want to use poe.trade at all. ;)

I'm similar in that I only buy build enabling items or gems.

I wrote what was probably a TLDR post covering itemization as a whole and how PoE2 can take concepts from past ARPGs that have better drop systems and further build on it. It does involve some crafting concepts but it's more about drops and alternate advancement of items.

Wait....you added additional challenge of SSF....to then come to the forums and complain about the added challenges that SSF creates? This is the level we're sinking to now? If you don't like the added SSF style of play, don't recreate SSF for you and your friends. Play like normal people who realize the only thing harder about SSF is the patience it requires to get the rolls you need, when you could just trade the awesome sorc item you happened to find for that cool bow you wanted for your own character....

You don't get to play a specific way and complain about your own rules. That's not how this works.

Sooo, with that logic we can tell everyone to stop complaining about any trade or economy issues and don't complain about multiplayer, because SSF exists, right?

GGG put SSF in the game, so the players can expect it to be a good experience.
I'm about 100 hours in to POE2, still playing my first character (about lvl 83 and doing lvl XI maps now).

I've had very little of value drop ... that I can tell!.

Currency has obvious value to me. Anything for my character I can see if I want. But generally I've had nothing "good" drop for my witch. Instead I've had to pick up odd bits off the trading site, which after 100 hours and just 1 divine drop means I'm running with very mid-line gear.

In fact - if it weren't for an experienced friend helping me out with some gear they'd collected, I'd be out the door long ago.

My rather long-winder point (sorry :) ) - POE2 is, as far as I can really tell, a trading game?

And it's a trading game I'm losing at because those that started before me/or had more time to race ahead now have money to make money. Also, because it's my first character, I've no idea if that heavy armour piece I can see is worth anything to anyone else - and I cba spending two hours every week inventory sorting for the shop.

Closing note: I'm unclear where the "game" skill comes in other than mashing the dodge key. Admittedly I'm not helped by my 15 minions throwing fire grenades everywhere - jeez, the visual clutter from that!
59 in August, play on Xbox Series X and have no issues with the game at all.
What I do want, and expect will arrive in due course, is some basic crafting bench (not the mountains of PoE1 meta crafts, just some QoL stuff). That and the changes and extra acts and characters and time and all will be fine.
Young people (i can only assume this, I don’t know ofc) are just so impatient for the full complete game when it’s in very early public beta (albeit by another name).

Can relate to most of the replies :D

Could not drop an adequite upgrade while mapping at all.
Was very lucky to craft a descent gun (flat lightning, speed, 80% ele.damage) tweak my build arround it, and get to 2500hp + res cap exept chaos with trade before it gone to hell. Pretty much the only reason i got to T15 and lvl 88.
Rinning like this for a month, no upgrades, no progress. no slow but methodical combat. So much fun.
