PoE Forums Are Broken – How to Fix Toxicity & Engagement

There's like 3-5 power posters here who troll any thread giving negative feedback of the game. Unsurprisingly, at least one of them showed up within the first few replies of this thread.

Sir, do you believe people leaving toxic post were born that way?:) Off the top of your head, can you remember many posters who still remain polite after a few years of GGG treatment, including false-positive bans and deleting their currency in Standard? Yep, polite people are here too, but provocative gaslighting is what gets remembered better.

Your reaction has just demonstrated why being toxic is actually "the most gain" a single person may get from visiting this forum. Because GGG is going to ignore all feedback anyway, with specific exceptions like streamers or other players who managed to get in their inner circle. The rest is just background noise to them. Forum staff here are not the ones making design decisions.

I respect the original thought of this thread, and dedicate efforts to maintain constructive and civil atmosphere back in our game's social platforms. Where we actually listen to players and try to improve their experience however our limited resources allow.

GGG has much, much more resources than we ever had, and a ton of time too. Poe1 is one of the longest living games on the market. Yet their treatment of the playerbase is so outstanding they are asking for trolling. 11 years to add town portal hotkey, lol. Productive team could dish out 2-3 completely new AA games in this timespan with the right financing.

Back when I first came to poe1, actually wrote long and thought through posts about what can be improved and how. Not that I ever expected actual dev was going to read it, but still.

So no, sadly no one can "fix toxicity" here because GGG will stumble and alienate everyone again with some collateral damage nerf or engine crash.

you want a score based echo-chamber why not go to already existing one? i don't get this. did reddit turn into religion and is actively trying to convert the internet to its belief system?
Ookay, blanket denial then:)

Disproving a statement is much easier than proving its true, a single contradicting fact is enough. You joining long list of those shifting focus to personal attacks implies you don't know such fact. In other words (what a horror), am I speaking the truth about the topic? What exactly do you consider false above?
passive aggressive reply without quoting. why am i not surprised.
what am i denying? you prefer something which already exists. go use it.
and i don't know what proof you need to make you realize that the proposed system is extremely prone to heavy bias.

if anything this 'proposition' is just means to establish a foothold for a vocal minority that will promptly take over this place and try to push their demands.

Again: I fully understand frustration. Ofc it hurts when you have a build and the company decides to nerf the skill. Ofc it hurts when they remove something from the game. But while a minority "suffers" from these changes, many others have a profit out of that. It's their job to balance stuff, especially during EA. I dont know why people have to straight go being toxic just because of a skill nerf. CoX for example was just way to overpowered and nearly everyone played it. That's something GGG wants to avoid, since this game should be about variety and not just 90% of the players using one skill that excels.

Furthermore, if GGG treated the playerbase so bad, then why was PoE1 successful for 11 years and Settlers of Kalguur being one of the most successful seasons? I think the players who felt ignored or beaten by GGG are in the minority, otherwise people would have abandoned this game very long ago. And I think this minority is trying to be the loudest here. In the end, we will only have an echo chamber here consisting only of the toxic players who stay until the end. The others, those who actually want to give constructive feedback, will just leave this forum at some point. If this is the goal, okay, fine by me. I would very likely leave at some point too, because I don't want to be part of a Kindergarden.
I don't know what the answer is, but I think the way some people behave is similar to going through withdrawal (from drugs or alcohol). It's like they want this thing badly, but it's just not giving them the feeling that they want out of it. It's not that they don't care about PoE. If they didn't, they wouldn't waste their time here. I kind of think the problem is that they're hooked on PoE, and they don't have a healthy relationship with it. And, it's kind of not their fault, if PoE is engineered to be this way (I mean, that's why I play it, too).

Do you honestly believe that the forums are toxic?

Do you have even the slightest idea how quickly stuff gets deleted/altered by mods if some agent of the PC police doesn't like it?

Heck, I have had post altered where I literally self-censored by using **** for certain words.

Even the slightest hint of sarcasm that was a bit on the harsher side gets deleted/altered.

And you want to have active more gimping people's speech?

You're one of those IRL too right? *If I do not like what you say, you must not say anything at all!!!*

Am I right? Kinda have to be if it bugs you this much that you have to ask for heavier monitoring in an online gaming forum simply because you do not like it.

I can't even make any political jokes/metaphors or whatever.

You already have no other means but a generic "I do not agree with you fine Sir" ways of communicating with obvious, uhm, god what word to use, "challenging" people.

No. I do not agree with your initial posting good Sir. I bid you farewell online stranger.

PS: Feel free to make yourself a puritan forum for PoE 2 or hop on reddit. The overall sentiment there is a lot more fluff than here. That might be the right place for you if this here is "toO ToXiC" for ya.

The problem with this community's toxic forum posters is that they have formed a parasocial relationship with the Devs. They think Johnathan and Mark are their real-life pals and godfathers of their imagined children. This combined with their mistaken belief that this is a high-skill game and not a one-button game makes them prideful and arrogant. So what you get is a pathetic toxic-positivity White Knight problem (like you see in a game like FFXIV) crossed with a toxic elitist problem (like you see in a game like Dark Souls).

This.
This is the best summary I've read about this entire situation.

Because most of players who started on the wrong foot with poe balance either left or converted to meta copypaste drones, when you know ahead of time what and how you will play at every stage of new league, and how exactly it will perform, thanks to PoB. Of course those who still beating their head against the wall on this forum are the minority.

And I agree being toxic is not really necessary even if your poe experience was mostly negative, it is personal decision of every individual.

Yet for the full picture you should mention that those who adore GGG because latter keep feeding players "master POB copypaster" egos are also toxic with their git gud stuff. Not meaning my own skirmishes with them (I have earned that on purpose), but how those masters crack down on new casual players who went into poe2 for the first time and complain about ascendancy trials, is also not necessary. So here is second reason why fixing toxicity here is a dream even if GGG stops doing div/ex swap followed by gloating over players instead of figuring out how to at least partially remedy this.
who the hell is the op think he is. if ggg has a pb with the feedback section, they will do sth about it, noone needs you and your terrible ideas.

ofc you re trying to silence feedback for some wierd reason. "omg people are complaining, this is too hard for me". i hope ggg never gives you any responsability.

just put a complaint section or sth or just stop coming read the feedback. noone needs you to do the filtering. like the god complex of this guy. people are pissed so yeah, the feedback will be messy, crazy. go into politics in the ussr, you ll love it there.
