loosing exp

I'm starting to lose it playing this game. Endgame is a miserable slog once you hit like lvl 89/90. Especially if you're on SSF or you fell behind the terrible economy.

>Absurd damage scaling on certain modifiers & abilities (e.g. Burning Ground)
>Experience loss on death
>Map loss on death
>Node Mechanic loss on death
>Crafting being nonexistent

All of this comes together to make an absolutely grueling end game experience. I don't want to engage with trade but my god does it feel like everything in this game is pushing you to use trade.

I truly do not understand how anyone can defend the current state of endgame. It's an absolute nightmare if you're not running one of the turbo busted builds.

You're right XP loss is silly. I'm out until GGG finds a good compromise.

Punishment leads to people quitting the game, not retention. You'd think player retention would a top priority especially with microtransactions but it sounds like GGG is giving more credence to the masochist player base (which is a minority player base)

Bruh... if you want a game without any "punishment" go play Cookie Clicker or something. "Path of Exile" is NOT a game that is catered to casual players.
PoE2 will have more "casual friendly" changes, but it's not a game you would choose if you cannot handle this kind of "punishment".

It's unreal.

Literally most games in existence have punishment mechanics and a lot of games have way harder and more severe punishments compared to PoE.

Death in and of itself--time spent--can feel punishing enough to plenty of people. "Casual" is also a spectrum, as it can just mean someone who likes playing the base game and not going too far into any ancillary or expanded content, or just likes the game and doesn't take it too seriously, or only plays a few hours a week and just wants to enjoy themselves. Casual vs Hardcore or whatever the comparison would be doesn't necessarily need to focus entirely on death penalties or mechanics to differentiate people. Casual can also just mean enjoying a milder difficulty but still playing the game for hundreds of hours. It feels passed the point now that "casual" is being thrown around as an insult over something that fundamentally affects the actual overall gameplay very little. It's not like people are asking for the equivalent of auto-parries in Sekiro or something. Plenty of "casual" players enjoy challenging games, they just want it to feel fair and that their time is respected, and PoE2 clearly does not for many players. Besides, softcore leagues, from the perspective of penalties for failure, has rather universally been mild to non-existent in countless looter ARPGs and similar games. I challenge you to find one that is fundamentally more punishing than even PoE1's 6 portals and exp loss, let alone PoE2's fucking everything, as its baseline penalty.

For the Nth time, GGG has plenty of room to improve how death penalties work in this game yet still retain their purpose and impact in a way that feels more fair and considerate of players' time.

Games evolve and POE should too, especially if they want to retain players and grow their user base.

You guys keep saying this. Why would anyone want to fill their user base in with people that would rather complain, than learn how to play a game.

It's almost as if a feedback forum exists for people to present, you know, feedback. They'd rather see the game improve than just up and leave because they enjoy it. If that somehow upsets you, you should highly consider not participating in such a forum.

The same can be said of the people that get hurt when others offer counter feedback.

-They don't know what makes a good game a good game, let's remember they are casuals, not game devs.

-If they leave the game because they enjoy it.... What ???

-They'd rather imagine a game than play a real game. Their imaginary doesn't work in reality.
