Jamanra (Act 2) is everything wrong in PoE2

He took me three attempts on my crappy monk in act2. It was a good fight imho. Once you learn the mechanics it’s very doable. I miss battles like that, endgame is kill in 1 second or be killed.
Did it with every class except ranger.

not too bad but very lightning resist dependant. so if you dont get elemental resist% gear you will struggle

On a minion build, gave up after like 15 attempts. I fail to see the point of a boss with 1 million hitpoints that takes 10+ minutes to kill. You run out of flasks thanks to the unavoidable damage or you miss one dodge and start from scratch.

Farm till level 40 and hope for better gear?
"Craft" and hope for a random item that isn't utter garbage?
Continue to waste time trying to dodge perfectly 100+ times during the fight?
Completely rework the build to do decent cold damage?
Pray for an item that gives you spirit so more minions?

Or ... just accept that PoE and this type of boss encounter isn't my thing, call it a day and forget about the game?

At the moment my frustration is high enough to consider quitting. I just don't see a point in a boss that needs 10+ minutes to kill and 100+ perfectly timed dodges. IN CAMPAIGN MODE!

I never liked Dark Souls and PoE2 is drifting heavily into the direction of it. Dying 100 times till you learn the mechanics and dying 100+ times more until you don't fumble a dodge is for masochists but not me.

How about adding an enrage timer that speeds the boss by 2x, and does 10x damage when not killed in 3 minutes? Thanks to capping the skill gems and not allowing to level them with XP gives the game a hard gear lock. I noticed this on my warrior - one lucky find and breezing through map where I struggled before. But gear is 100% luck in this game. Still don't have ANY +level to minions items and the minion damage is ok but against this boss it is pathetic at best.

Also: Dodging is a bit of an issue when you can't see shit thanks to the flame walls, SRS and minions. Visual overload is the best description I have - when you can't even see what the effing boss is doing that you need to doge or stand behind.

he is bullet sponge but every attack can be avoided
ahaha :D first time i did that boss i spent 4 hours on it...as monk atleast u have minions that do the work while u can just hide in the back dodging XD
There can only be one Box, and that is the BOX from HELL.
Crazy how little OP's resentment is being respected in these comments. My personal experience is a little different than his, but I can 100% see where he's coming from. Bosses are massive HP sponges, you can easily run out of flask charges when lacking DPS, and when you lack DPS it's quite hard to magically come up with power-ups for your character. This can easily happen to a new player, especially if they homebrew their build and are on the "casual" side. Would this all be his fault then, too? I think this game excludes a lot of potential players from a broader audience since it's often times even more punishing and hardcore than Dark Souls. They could easily reduce the bosses' HP by 20% and still have a formidable challenge and memorable fight.

+1

Most bosses in campaign are very good and adhere to the original POE2 philosophy.

Feeling completely engaged with timing and positioning is fun. 10 mins, 20 mins, it doesn't matter. The gameplay is fun.

Nuking, while fun, can stay in POE1

And why does the game need more players? The more they cater to mindless casual players that aren't the target audience the more the game loses its essence.
Do not need to do anything to this boss.

Anyone having trouble in the campaign are simply getting skill checked at this point.
Mash the clean
More a build check then skill check, like most of the game ... well the whole game.
