Trial is bullshit

Ya this is the first thing I've come across in POE2 where I just might quit until changed.

I'm almost 50, I don't have the interest or patience to avoid every spec of damage, thats why I have health/pots/resists/armor/evasion/block. If I wanted to be that nimble, I'd just play a dance dance revolution.

I've liked the challenge of the bosses and learning to just do well enough to win, but I get hit and find a way to recover.
The trial (sekhemas) itself: kinda like it honestly, choosing which room you want to go to and pathing through them for rewards, doing a bunch of bite-sized challenges, having to restart if you die, that all seems fine.

Honour imposing a hit limit: Absolutely hate it (I'm playing monk), probably wouldn't hate it as much as a ranged/minion class but still don't like the idea of it.

Think something like honour could work but instead of making it a fail state seems like it should either work like not grabbing certain relics/items in lab and/or an additional reward system. Have honour you can earn from not getting hit, from not using flasks, from killing enemies quickly/from close range etc. Make it so that getting to certain thresholds gives extra rewards or disables some extra quirk of the final encounter, still see this leading to some classes having an inherently harder time than others but it'd be an extra carrot for this particular stick instead of just another way to waste all the time spent doing this mode.
I just finished Trial of Chaos on my lv40 Chronomancer somehow.
There were a lot of 'table smashing' moments.
My take is that the thing get intruduced waaay too soon.
They should introduce it at level 40+ and at least halve the penalty.
Even then, the run only got easier when I start to get lv2 support gems and lucky with x2 of 'tether heart'.
Dying to the freaking bird is no problem but having to restart all the way everytime is a pain.

Just going to add here because it's true. The honor system needs to go. I'm having so much fun in this game aside from trials. Spending time getting to the end boss to have it just bonk out my honor to lose all the progress because of RNG along the way? That's not a "challenge", it's just random and terrible. Every time I go there it's just a slog and makes me want to quit.
F trials.
Armor, and resistances are broken in this game. You can get one shot from any activities.

Armor does reduce damage taken... so does evasion helps you not getting hit. If that super easy trial is too hard for you, then just come back later. Wait for the one in act 3 instead.

I dont think evasion helps. I tried it and it seems like I still take hits no matter what 100% of the time.

What actually helps is a ranged class that can actually shoot things at range.

Melee is about hitting and getting hit. The honor system punishes melee users WAY too harshly per hit.

Evasion most definitely helps, but... you need lots of it, and it won't help against AoEs without Acrobatics, in which case you need still more evasion to get the percentage back up there. Of the three defenses, though, it is overall the most effective in the trial. ES doesn't reduce damage at all (but does tend to give you the biggest honour pool), while armour only reduces physical hits.

So evasion, combined with honour resistance and increased honour is the second best way to be "tanky". #1 Being evasion, honour resistance, and Darkness as an Acolyte monk, though that requires doing the first ascension (which isn't that hard, as it can be over-leveled) and being an acolyte (which is a very bad ascension).

But yes, the two best "defenses" are being ranged and having crazy high damage.

I'm handmade warrior. And I bit 3 trial all by myself.
The first one from 2nd attemp on 25 lvl (? ; i dond rememrer). Then chaos. 3rd trial I bit on 75-80 lvl with 10-15 runs. And 90% of my loses was deaths on Gollems. They are tough, realy.
I just "git good".

Now I'm on my way on 4th Trial. I have 2200 hp, and the only blows I'm afraid of are all sorts of super-powerful ultimates, but they must be like that.

So... git good.
