On Pure Evasion
Everybody I talk to hates pure evasion equipment. EVERYBODY. (Unless you're getting Iron Reflexes)
What gives? I like the idea of dodging. Sure, it'd be pretty dangerous for a melee character, but still. I'm trying it on my ranger and so far so good. As long as you have high resists, get arrow dodging and the two dodge keystones, and don't stand in melee with more than one or two enemies at a time... Any love for evasion? |

You're using evasion in the way the game supports well. It's mostly about Arrow Dodging and avoiding the non-physical portions of attacks.
Most of the people who are complaining are trying to use evasion for melee, where it is very unspectacular. Considering that shadows and rangers are given melee passives, the ability to build an evasive, dual-wielding assassin is implied, and it actually is a shame that pure evasion is so ill-equipped to protect melee characters. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Thanks.
I've often thought about giving Evasion a small chance (Maybe 3% per evade, plus some passives) to trigger an "evade frenzy" that gives you 3-5 seconds of 100% evade chance. That might make it more viable for melee. |

There should be passive that makes all your armor into evasion just like iron reflexes so determination would help ecasion builds as mush as grace gives tons of armor to iron reflexes builds (imagine multiplying your evasion by multiplier or determination aura).

" This is the type of character I'm building right now as a ranger. I'm up to level 75 and don't see evasion being a viable defensive mechanic without insane gear to support decent levels of mitigation and evasion. I mention mitigation because the acrobatics cluster is a trap for any build that doesn't plan on kiting literally everything. Even when I round out my proposed 266% increased maximum life I can tell I'm going to feel glassy as hell because my dex provides no flat bonus to life. (Speaking of which I find it really frustrating that stacking upwards of 400 dex still leaves me with under 80% chance to hit, forcing me to have to seek out +accuracy mods). That throws going full evasion out the window with how close I have to put myself to mobs. So far I've found that my actual evasiveness hinges more on my mobility in ~40% runspeed allowing for hit and run more than anything else. It's the most fun I've had since OB, but the mechanics are not in my favor. |

I love pure evasion gear :D
Plus, it reduces the chance of being hit by a critical attack, so I feel like using it with IR makes you worse off overall. If I have two fish, and you have three fish, how many fish do we have?
None. These are MY fish. |

Evasion+arrow dodging high crit bow shadow here.
I LOVE EVASION. |

I'm going pure eva, acrobat keynodes and arrow dodging as well. Its going okay, things are nice enough when I don't get frequent instances of desync. Only at 42 for now, but I'd say with sufficient resists, hp and control of the character it can be pretty good. Arrow dodging is a really sweet thing to have, especially against piety's fire nailgun monstrosities. Now to get the right gear...

There are several reasons to go full armor instead full evasion on high level. Like You don't want to limit yourself to only being able to use evasion items. So if you use iron reflexes, it doesn't really matter if you use pure armor, pure eva, or hybrid armor: makes it easier to find an upgrade.
The other big reason is flicker strikers and chargers: trust me, there's a little desync, and Rhoas will charge on you from out of screen and you can be grateful if you didn't die already. |

The problem with people attempting to go pure evasion that they are going PURE evasion. Evasion rocks, but when the enemy has a small chance to one-shot you, it isn't going to be a viable tactic.
If you want to go pure evasion and melee, you are going to need arctic armor and endurance charges, in addition to tons of life. 5 endurance charges is easy for a ranger to get, 7 if you want to use the rings, the tricky part is getting enough mana regen to keep arctic armor going. Shields and a totem are highly recommended too. Bullshit, you get the game for free.
