Overheating my video card?

Don't know if it is the gpu but I had some serious problems with the heat generated while playing PoE.
I play on an packard bell's Easynote TJ65 (intel core 2 duo CPU T6600 @2.20 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GT240M) and after around 45 minutes playing (sometime more, less often it's less than 30 minutes) it turns itself off for the heat and I have to wait at least an hour before start thinking about playing again.
I would like o point out that I recently disassembled the laptop to clean it (I do so every 6 months) so this situation worries me.
I play at 800x600, no shadows no AA, no anything, just V-sync after reading this topic (it didn't help), the games runs at 60 fps most of the time, I have some drops with the V-sync.

I apologize for my English.

On a laptop it is recommend to put the laptop on a table or other clear surface and put the power cable in it (so it doesn't switch to a mode to preserve energy). If you rest it on your legs, the heat inside the case usually increases faster. Other than that I don't really have a solution. The fans inside a laptop are usually too small to effectivelly get rid of the heat.

I'm not that stupid to play with it on my legs =P. As I said every six months I disassemble it to get rid of any dust, I thought this was enough to avoid the basic suggestions =).
I'm not convinced about the idea that the problem is me using a laptop: I play many games which are more resource intensive than this (I'm not even in the minimum requirements for tribes ascend but I can still run it) without having a single problem (or the left side of the computer able to cook a steak). it's true that laptops don't get rid of the heat as easily as a desktop, but this statement is still far, far away from a laptop that shuts itself down for the heat, to be exactly it shouldn't happen in any normal situation (what running this game should be for me based on the resources required). don't get me wrong, I enjoy the game and I play it half an hour every day, I just want to be able to play more if I have some free time without worrying about melting the laptop.
This topic is six pages long, it's pretty obvious that something smells.

A lot of problems are caused by pretty basic stuff. It is caused by the game, but usually you can improve or change something in your computer too to make the game better playable.

You might have to wait till the game is optimized and/or a fps limiter is added.

Add me to the hot temp gpu list

95c in town = crash
85c in act 1 (anywhere) = crash
62c current temp after 10hours+ 'normal' use.
= no crash, ever, yet.

VSync was on in game and
Vertical Refresh was set to Always On in CCC.

basic specs.

ATI5870 (all 'hot' gpu threads = ATi's??)
i5 quad/4gig ram.

Had blue screen once but mostly its a game crash with error saying Driver Disabled and that it has recovered.

All other games play fine but i've just bought a gpu cooler as I would:-
a/ like to see if it helps/prevents crash, even though it obviously is the *beta stage of the game, plz *note i do not directly blame the game its beta after all.
b/ I wanna keep playing, simple as that and I would rather spend £40 on a gpu cooler than buy diablo drm 3 :)(I'll be buying T2 though ;) )

Check if air can flow freely through the computer. Make sure that there are no dust clouds inside the case and that there is enough room around the case. 65C is very high for an idle temperature.

My game crashes at about 93 degrees Celsius.
I own a GeForce 9800 GT, and I play at fps locked via Vsync at 75. I have other games which are more graphically demanding and they don't run at that high temperatures.

Just thought, that I would bump this thread so the devs take care of it.

What is the idle temperature of your graphical card? It is a known issue that higher-end gpu's tend to blow themself up creating as much frames as possible, while only 60/second can be displayed. I believe there are simple programs out there that can limit the amount of frames generated until such an option is implemented in the game.

My GeForce runs at 45*C idle now, and 41*C when there's winter. I guess that those are quite normal idle temps. It should be something about 40 degrees. Idle temps aside, I'm 100% sure that there is something with the game.
I've tried forcing Vsync on, FPS limiter, speed fan, different drivers, etc... game still makes my graphics card dangerously hot to the point my computer crashes (and I'm afraid it might melt the interior).

I don't have this issue with any other games like Crysis, Diablo III, Starcraft II, etc. I was wondering if there is a temporary fix? I can't play without risking permanent damage to my card at this point. I really don't want to miss the beta...

You are probably DOOOMED, I say DOOOOOOOMED.

Seriously, I do not think that there are any simple solutions to the problem.

The only advice I can give is:
The fan in your computer probably has problems keeping your computer cool in general, so help it as much as you can: clean the fan if possible, keep the ventillation outlet with as free flow as possible (never block it with a wall or the table!), keep it away from direct sunlight and keep your room-temperature low.
Reduce graphical settings to a minimum (I especially saw lowering resolution helping!). Close as many of the background programs as possible while playing (not likely to help the graphical card directly, but an indirects effect might be seen.).
Never play the game for too long periods at the time. 1 hour tops per session and if you are crashing before that, keep the sessions even shorter!
I have had worse problems than usual when I have packet-losses and in general, high latency.

What kind of FPS-limiter do you use? Can you change fan-speed in "speed fan"?
I appear to be living in "Romance Standard Time". That has to be good! :)
Is it just me, or has the overheating become worse with the latest patch?
I have had 2 overheatings in a few weeks, while it had almost been extinguished the months before.
I have played a bit with fullscreen windowed and Vsync on and that probably caused one of the overheating since the FPS flew around like crazy, while the other one was normal fullscreen with only FPS-limiter like I always play.

Sorry to revive this thread. I have a Nvid 9800 GT and as soon as i start up POE it goes into like hyperdrive. This is weird as this is the only program it does this with so i dont believe it is a bad fan or not clean as it can run programs that should be much more intensive. At some point during my game play it will freeze my screen will go to power save mode and it requires a hard reboot.

I have read the entire tread and tried a number of solutions. I havent tried a FPS limiter however it seems odd that it goes into this state even in the loggin screen. Has any one found a solution to this issue or have the devs confirmed if it is possible its a software issue?

I payed for a $10 beta key have played through most of act 2, so far its a great game already and shows tons of promises. Well worth the price even if I cant finish it but would like to know if any one has any new information regarding this overheating of the gfx cards.

Cheers,

Simmy
FWIW, I seemed to have started getting crashes (I mean total system power-off out of nowhere) when I started spamming Flicker Strike. I played for days prior to this with no problem. Never had it before with other games. Then I start using that skill (which is fun) and the system and power supply get ridiculously hot.

I've since removed the gems ability from my skill bar and have been playing for a bit without the crash. Hopefully that was it and hopefully there will be a fix soon.
I am using an ATI RADEON HD 4670.While idle it's about 50C (very hot summer) but as soon as i turn on PoE it jumps to 80-90 and after like an hour of gameplay my computer just shuts down.I do not have or ever had problems with overheating with any other game.Maybe there is some kind of fix?
