I still see it as a replacement to Molten Shell, at the very least. Molten Shell doesn't do much when you stack Iron Skin Granites. But the flat reduction stacks VERY well with the large percentage reduction from high armor levels. (Assuming here that the flat applies after the percentage - it definitely feels to, but I can't be 100% sure.)
And during combat, it's not like you ever need to actually physically walk somewhere. Things like the Whirling Blades travel doesn't count as moving, just like with Puncture. And having no cooldown, you can just on-and-off it at will between battles. |

Actually, I think movement in combat is critical for melee. If this skill wasn't intended with movement in mind, there wouldn't be ice on the floor.
To be honest, short term defense buffs are getting tiring. |

Does the mana degen increase with gem level too? 66 mana/second is pretty easy to hit at level 60.

im very close to making it stabel at level 7 with clarity running on a dagger crit shadow , ATM i have 2 grant flasks swaped for mana to keep it on 24/7 but with a bit of tweaking i think i can get by with no mana pots soon. The damage reduction is really noticed to, this skill might be bad ass if i can get the mana to keep it running while still alowing lightning strike spam.
Just a sec let me grab a beer...@#*@ Ok how did I die this time

Hmm, now that I see the movement rate goes up rather high with levels, perhaps the skill would best be used with Cyclone or Leap Slam. I am thinking of an aura-focused build (maybe even Eldritch Battery?), and link Cyclone or Leap Slam to blood magic and lifeleech. You could have 50 available mana, but as long as your mana regen is higher than it's degen you could keep it up during combat simply by using the above skills to move around.
Oooh, I just had another idea. Does this item work with this? So you receive less damage from physical, and when 20% of the damage is converted to fire, you receive less damage from that as well (presumably after fire resists too), making it very likely this is is now a flat 20% damage reduction, as opposed to a flat 15% when you only have 75% resists. Hmmm, good question on the gear. I guess it all boils down to how/when damage is assigned/transfered. If you take 100 physical damage and 20% of that is transferred to fire making it 80 physical and 20 fire, does the game calculate all of that *before* applying reductions would be the question at hand.

" If it really scale like this, one can build without armor. The new build is to get this gem to level 20, then max out on mana and mana regen gear. -600 physical damage is retarded. with 10k armor against brutus 4000 hook, one mitigates barely 20% or so of that. If someone just ignores armor alltogether, they basically are immune to all damage from crap outside sources, furthermore, they are also given about the same survivability against brutus as a person with 10k armor.
