I'll just point out that you all don't understand large numbers. There are approximately 10^85 elementary particles in the universe. So... cut it out with this "theoretically possible" nonsense. The universe wouldn't have the time to conduct an experiment of that scale so no... there's no "theoretically possible" here. If you use 1mil fusings on an item YOU WILL get a 6 link before running out. It's a certainty. No experiment would ever prove me wrong. Ever. Not in a million universe's life spans.

" Come on now, did you read anything I said? I already gave the number of atoms (nice one going a step farther for elementary particles :P) for scale in an earlier post. I know exactly how "realistically impossible" it is, but as a math professor, you should know how inappropriate it is to use "theoretically" for something that isn't a literal absolute statement :P "You all" is not a fair statement. If the probability to 6L with a fuse is 1/1000, the average can be found by (999/1000)^x = 0.5 , which gives you x = log(0.5)/log(999/1000) = 693 fusings (rounded). That's quite far from 1000. If 1000 fusings is average, probability to fuse can be found by (1-p)^1000 = 0.5 which gives you p = 6.9*10^-4 = 0.00069 This would mean that not having a 6L in 3k fusings has a chance of 0.125 or 12.5% to happen, so it's indeed normal and expected to happen in 1 out of every 8 fuse attempts. |
