can we please stop the power creep, already? (or better - reverse it)
That's no content? Also, which ones do you want to disable then? extra chaos ones? Gem rolls? Both? Well, why would running a shaper/elder based map then be rewarding? What else is happening there to make it worthwhile to sustain influence? Because running the elder itself isn't very profitable, neither is running uber-elder compared to other options permanently. It's a huge hassle to set up and finish, especially since the vast majority of players don't have the means to survive the encounter, even less so without the powerful affixes provided which made many builds viable again... while spiraling others into the stratosphere literally.
Or are you speaking about removing the implicits from the synthezizer? Since those are the sole purpose of the nexus. Only take away the strongest ones? It's already barely viable to be run at all, without the crafting of implicits - which make you stronger and are different compared to any other mechanic - the whole system would just be another 'get loot like anywhere else'. So, those can't be it as well it seems, you don't want to affect game-mechanics in a way so they become obsolete after all. Or do you mean delve fossils which can spiral your character up massively as well with rolls such as elemental inc on rings and belts or -res for mobs on the helmet? Well, without fossils delving in side-tunnels is suddenly barely worthwhile for the time you'll use up. So that can't be it either. So, which part exactly do you mean, be precise there, speak up and tell us exactly which mechanic, and which part of a mechanic you dislike, how you want to change it and what you want to put in its stead to keep the attached game-mechanic worthwhile. Because up until now you've only screamed around without saying anything of value which other people haven't mentioned several times yet, just with more precise solutions attached. " Yes, but removing stuff is the last option available, when everything else fails and it's just too convoluted to fix. Removing the mentioned power-creep is removing 3.0.0, several games have attempted such roll-backs with removing broken systems instead of balancing/reworking them. Nearly each of them failed and player retention wasn't even an issue anymore, it was rather finding players at all afterwards. GGG balance is like getting a pizza which is burnt on the sides, raw in the middle and misses the most of the toppings. Then upon sending it back you get a raw side, burnt middle and enough toppings to drench everything in grease. Everything fixed but still broken. " ...have you read ANYTHING i posted in this thread? edit: or the other power creep thread we both posted in... edit 2: lolz @ player retention. in a league with the worst player retention in... years? ever? in a thread with numerous people clearly not even currently playing. this guy's my favorite. " There is also the risk of not solving this issue before real competition appears and then it will be too late for player retention anyway. I really don't see how much more convoluted this game can become before drastic change. I would like some examples of the games you are referring too though. It's funny cause PoE started as a game for a specific crowd and did great with fantastic game quality but now that there are drops in that quality, we try to justify everything on player retention. " I would actually love for competition to appear, that would force the game to thrive as someone else is there to take the player-base otherwise. But that would takes years with the depth this game has managed to build up over time. But sure, one of those is for instance 'Reign of Kings' which was looked forward to quite a while. Being a sandbox survival game which had several interesting showcased mechanics, which mostly were broken, then sometimes removed as fixing seemingly was too hard to do. And last but not least it got abandoned from the devs. Not a good example as to what GGG does, here it#s gladly quite the contrary and they definitely try to fix stuff... sadly not always properly, but that's a given with the size of the game. And also, I'm not trying to justify those things, changes won't hurt the game, removal of content though will. Major reworks won't hurt the game either as we've seen with the change of the master-system, as long as those focus on cluttered and/or broken mechanics. As long as GGG takes their time to 'clean' their game before 4.0.0 it should be fine, though they need to take their time to actually do it. The base-mechanics have spiraled out of control and need to be held back by implementing something to make sure it won't happen in the same way again simply, but even that is a major rework of several parts of the game, usually happening between the 'big' content pushes rather then between leagues. GGG balance is like getting a pizza which is burnt on the sides, raw in the middle and misses the most of the toppings.
Then upon sending it back you get a raw side, burnt middle and enough toppings to drench everything in grease. Everything fixed but still broken. |

I am a casual player coming from Diablo 3, and what I like about POE is the fast paced game play. I watch Quin69 as I am a subscriber to him on Twitch.tv, and when he played Grim Dawn I had to go watch someone else play PoE. The game play puts you to sleep.

" That guy rather is trolling, either that or willfully misunderstanding. Read through a few other posts in other threats, he's behaving in the same manner all over the forum. Should say more then enough. The alternative would be that he's fairly dumb, not meant in a bad way, just well... genetically not very lucky. Would actually be the best solution there, at least then he isn't at fault personally, can't do anything against that. " Nobody is talking about taking away the speed. You can still rush through maps then, just not t16 or uber-elder at lvl 70 then. Also you're absolutely right about speedy game-play being fun, watching an auto-bomber zoom through maps and explode everything is great, the feeling of playing one personally is as well. Though, that mechanic should only be possible at the respective level of content your character should be able to run, making it unable to skip over such a vast majority of it. Also simply 'deleting' end-game bosses shouldn't be able either, those are supposed to put up a fight, seeing people standing at the cortex and simply alternating between 2 skills as he phases in and out is just... well... fairly anticlimactic for new content. On the other hand 90% of people struggle heavily against it, the disparity between that is just too large, making the margin smaller, not via removal of game-mechanics but via implementation of dampeners (at the right places!) would alleviate that to a large degree while not hindering the 'feel' of the game. Also having at least a chance to react to things happening on screen sometimes is a nice thing to have. It's frustrating to have visual markers for attacks not be seen as a ton of effects clutter the screen, all the while attacks from enemies not being clearly shown. It wasn't an issue years ago where the game was quite clean and understandable, though with ever more and more effects added the visibility of the player has just plummeted down a lot. Some universal mechanic to show enemy attacks ever so lightly, always with the same color and visible through the - awesome looking! - effects would help there a lot already is my guesswork at least. GGG balance is like getting a pizza which is burnt on the sides, raw in the middle and misses the most of the toppings.
Then upon sending it back you get a raw side, burnt middle and enough toppings to drench everything in grease. Everything fixed but still broken. |
