That's not what I was saying at all but ok.
I'm not even referencing other threads here. I've seen cleave and sweep builds pay off in maps, you just have to be careful about your positioning. I'll agree that there are certain areas that make that difficult but it's not like every map is a cake-walk for ranged. Talking from experience and all.

The salvation of melee lies in fleshing out the entrance charge mechanics. They need to be vastly less cumbersome to use and lock out ranged abilities.
There is nothing in this game that poses a problem to range, that doesn't pose a bigger problem to melee. Yes, every map is a easier for range. The game is designed that way, and it's dumb as shit.
