Parties are actually ridiculous in POE

Why do people prefer to play solo instead of with a clear party advantage?

Because more players means more skills are being used, and FPS drops drastically. And low FPS means easy death. Not to mention that random party memebers can use ridiculously laggy skills.
Also, in PoE, clear speed can be so absurdly high, that picking up a few drops will make you stay far behind your group and take 0 exp.
And in reality, party members cant be perfectly coordinated, and monsters have more HP. Solo player, that happened to be ahead, cant oneshot monsters as he did solo, so monsters attack and oneshot him instead. That's how it works in PoE.

Partiy is worth it only if there's a dedicated "support player" ("aura bot") in it, with tons of auras boosting players and turning mobs into vegetables. Oh, and all plyers should have great PCs and non-laggy skills, so FPS wont be an issue.

The same reason why there isn't a phenomenon of people sharing temple runs.

Playing in a party hinders you, it doesn't help you. Each additional person in the party gives less loot per person, plus all the other mechanical nonsense where the game can only handle one person doing something at a time ( map drops, flask charges, item / skill triggers, achievements, challenges, etc. etc. )

People shat on Diablo 3 all the time ...but it super benefits group play, and removed 99% of the in-fighting and forum drama regarding loot drop ownership.

This right here. Partying in PoE hinders you. Meanwhile in D3 partying have way more benefits (personal loot).

BONUS ROUND:

Why do people prefer to play solo instead of with a clear party advantage?

Can't play with friends if you don't have friends.
I dont understand why POE actively discourages party play. Stuff like sharing loot/xp is literally ragnarok online era...the online RPG industry has moved beyond that to instanced loot and equal XP.

Even phantasy star online had instanced loot and nearly equal xp share...and almost everyone in that game prefered to party as a result.

Even with the improved item quantity, etc, once you divide by 2, each person is getting less loot and less xp...therefore it just makes more sense to solo especially since clearing maps is not hard when most mobs die instantly (league mechanics and bosses aside).

FPS problems? Allow players to limit special effects to client side only (basically, their own effects and monster effects, not other players) ...problem solved. Other games have had this feature for ages.

Oh wait this is the company that took several years to make an attack in place toggle. Everything makes sense now.
There only 1 instance where party play is good. When you have enough dps and iiq to kill everything with an aurabot friend and you get all the loot because others are leechers. Aside that, the bonus is not worth it.

Lets look at real facts here:
A map as X loot or 100%
If you get 2 player and get 50% IIQ it only mean that the if an item has a chance to drop or not it has 50% more chance to drop. In the end you end up with a map loot of maybe 120% items compared to solo for stronger monsters.
Take that 120% and divide it by 2. You end up with 60% loot or 40% less than if you ran the map solo.
Effectively, the only true thing that make profit in team play is the actual sharing cost of sextant and extra XP. Mapping as group is a little less profitable if everyone loot but cost less to run if everyone pitch in for maps/sextant. The only way it would truly be profitable for a full group to loot would be if everyone ran IIQ, each players gave 100%+ IIQ and at least 50% IIR. Anything under that make it underwhelming. There is also that running a full group will either have a lagmancer and/or the doom-train of boredom where you almost find yourself wondering if you should keep running or consider breathing because you havnt had the chance to take a sip of water in 10 maps.

group play reward < solo reward. 95% of scenarios.
