Will 2 handed melee ever be made competitive in this game?

I would love a 1-hand Javelin type weapon *swimms in diablo 2 nostalgica*

So for the 2.6.0 update, we're planning:
Some balance changes to keep the metagame fresh. An example is that we have lined up significant buffs to one-handed melee weapons.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
Mapping is no issue, its more end game bosses like uber atziri that are very difficult for melee. And no totems are not melee.

Problem is sht mobility : leap slam sucks and what makes blade flurry actually sick is

1° one hand enabling whirlwing blade

2° no use of multistrike or anything that stuck you into the animation of an attack so you are able to interupt & move as soon as you stop pressing the button

I actually like leap slam with plenty of attack speed and help take shortcuts that whirling blade or shield charge cannot do. Sure, they can be much faster, but you still have to go around. I have used pretty much every movement skills in the game and each has their own perks. Though, it stinks to have too much attack speed with whirling blades since I can desync once in a while (still use predictive since it is much worse for me on lockstep), but it helps me progress a lot in a flat map.
Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

1. Leap Slam is one of the best move skills. You need more attack speed dude. Leap Slam with a lot of attack speed is phenomenal.

2. Whirling Blades is far from what it was. Shield Charge is exponentially better at the moment since it scales off of both % attack speed, and weapon APS, where WB only scales off of % Attack Speed.
U MAD?
My 2 hd builds took a few big hits. One was leap slam distance two was curse resistance of bosses. I used to double or tri curse on leap in chest and made most any skill work on boss. Today it's weak. Get tagged too much incoming and don't debuff them enough. I've pretty much given up on 2hders. cept spells ofc.

IMO 2hand melee life builds > 1 hand melee life builds because you can wear a Kaoms. Max block does nothing if you get one shot. Bigger hit pool is more valueable.

you can wear a shield with 1h, that s at best 90+life and 3 resist + armor+block.

Kaom heart is not really that good in his non leg version, the fire damage is only interesting to boost oro on Rt.

Also hierophant + helm +essence = 1h +shield+6l (helm)
At top level a mirror dagger will do more damage than any top/mirror 2h.

Yep rare 1h phy kind of suck but some build like ST crit just need basic 3 elem mods on it to deal insane dps.

Aaaah, a bunch of people talking about rare unique items to define how strong 1H/2H is.

1H non-crit, non-dagger builds are very bad. The game is heading down the drain, if you are to rely on crit to get anywhere. Crit should be a choice, not a requirement.

If you define "1H" as daggers, playing Shadow, then no, it doesn't need a buff. At all. But if you define "1H" as non-crit maces, swords, axes or claws, then yes, it needs a huge... ENORMOUS buff. Throw in a RS buff while we're at it, and we might be headed somewhere.

this is totally untrue.

1h non crit is GOOD. The dps will be lower, of course but with elemental damage it's not a problem. fortunately we have a lot of way to scale ele non crit damage.

I'm sure over a million dps is doable with decent gear, while keeping huge tankiness.

Oh also, face breaker is OP so 1h-shield cant compete with it... But it's the fault of facebreaker.

And remember, the bonuses of ES given by shield is ABSOLUTELY INSANE because of thoses shield nodes. SO yeah 1h-shield ES is crazy.
I will never be good but always I try to improve.
