"Never pay-to-win" Dishonest Marketing by GGG?

Want dishonest marketing?

Voiding previous purchase when new pack comes to force people to pay the total if they want the supporter packs

Not sure how that's dishonest marketing when it's neither marketed (product details on a purchase page is not marketing), and specifically indicates the timespan of point purchases that the offer is valid for.

Random people on the Internet giving wrong information is also not dishonest marketing since Grinding Gear Games have no control over what some random person says.

Next thing he'll tell you is that coupons with use by dates are dishonest marketing.

What? By that logic I should get the minotaur pack free since I already paid $50 for the ascendant pack. That's not a good way to run a business.

He's not talking about supporter packs getting upgraded. He's talking about generic points packs getting upgraded. His conclusion that it's greed driven though is just his speculation. Maybe the more logical explanation is that the 13 week development cycle corresponds with the business quarters and counting income in a quarter that you have to uncount in another quarter because the person wanted to use those points toward a future supporter pack is a tax and bookkeeping nightmare. But nah, greed is the only possible explanation.

i never mentioned previous Supporter packs purchase, im talking about the 5-10-20$ packs

,
the ones you usually buy in hope of one day buying a supporter pack

Prophecy had only 1 Supporter pack so once you had it bought... there was nothing else to go for as a supporter pack. So the support was directly in form of 5-10-20$ packs.

This punishing people that want to support, it doesnt make sense

Oh right, I had forgotten those can be upgraded too. I moved to just buying supporter packs a couple iterations ago since the generic packs weren't enough for my ever-growing need of stash tabs to hoard stuff in. I wonder if I have enough tabs for the prophecy merge... Might even need a second currency tab soon.

I have over 80 premium tabs but I don't sell anything. I just like my tabs to look pretty. I guess everyone have different purposes for premium tabs but having premium tabs in itself is not pay to win :)

Plus my items are pretty bad, no one will buy them anyway haha.

Lol, I'm sure you have some good items in there too! I do think the premium stash tabs are a pay-to-win feature. That doesn't mean they are game changing or even impactful at all for every player in the game. But I think there was a philosophy Chris articulated when the game first came out in terms of microtransactions and game balance. It this type of ARPG, the positive feelings of players are "substantially reduced" if other players can "buy advantage" to have the convenience to obtain currency for "less effort" and the overall "integrity of the game" is diminished:

We don’t want to sell anything that affects the game economy or provides a competitive advantage for one player over another. We try to completely divorce our microtransactions from the game balance. Selling items that affect a player’s stats, or can be traded, or provide some type of gameplay boost are examples of things that we feel would be pay-to-win.

We’ve designed Path of Exile as the game that we want to play, and we don’t want to play a game where players can buy advantage. In an Action RPG, it’s very important that players can only acquire levels and items as a direct result of their hard work so that the integrity of the game is kept intact. Players play for the feeling of finding and having an amazing item, and that feeling is substantially reduced if other players can get it for less effort.

You keep posting this as your only argument, and it's not a good one.

Upgrades: You can upgrade from one of these new Supporter Packs to another on this page by clicking "Upgrade" on the desired pack. The process will include any pure points packs purchased since the previous supporter packs went away on August 12. The maximum amount that upgrades can contribute is 80% of the value of a pack. If you have any questions about this process, please contact support@grindinggear.com!
Payment Plans: Because you can merge points packs (purchased since August 12) up to 80% of the value of a supporter pack, you can make intermediary payments towards a pack and then spend the points immediately. If you'd like to arrange a more complex payment plan or have any questions, please contact support@grindinggear.com!

Straight on the 'Buy Packs' page, my friend. Same page the small point packs are on.
