Lag in game whenever I use Youtube/Twitch etc

I have the same issue with watching twitch streams. Whenever I watch them while playing my ping constantly (every 2-3s) goes from 40 to 200 then back down to 40. It annoys me so I no longer watch streams on twitch while playing which sucks.

I don't have any logs with WinMTR to report but what I do know is that when I play WoW, D3, and Dota 2 I have absolutely no problem watching streams while playing. My ping stays steady in every other game. I may be a networking noob but this makes me believe its caused by PoE.

I'm hardwired into my modem and have no one else on my network.

HAve you tried using something like Livestreamer Twitch GUI https://github.com/bastimeyer/livestreamer-twitch-gui?

It makes you use your videoplayer (I prefer VLC) and that way you don't need to use flashplayer either.
I'd also like to report this. I had no problem watching youtube/netflix/etc. on the 2nd monitor while playing PoE.... until Talisman league. No problem in any other game. I was using lockstep before Talisman as well, so it's not the predictive -> lockstep change.

I get lag spikes at seemingly random moments when trying to watch things and play. The lag will jump from 30-40ms up to +1500ms, lasting for a few seconds. Most likely this is when youtube buffers I imagine. The last time I tried booting up a Netflix video, it literally disconnected me from the game... when I was idling in my hideout. I could understand playing on a foreign server in a full party of 6 mid-battle... but idling in hideout?

Also, if I instead stream Netflix on the nearby PS4 to the side of me, on the same wireless connection, no in-game lag/spikes at all. This also makes me lean towards not bandwidth. GPU and CPU do not spike from running both at the same time either. Hell neither even get into "high" readings running both.

I already know I have no data, and people will blame my connection. I actually upgraded my bandwidth (both up and down) about 3x what I originally had mid-league (yay for ISPs not upgrading you until you complain), and it didn't change this phenomenon.

I still have other odd pauses in Talisman league after all the patches (i.e. I still have a half-second freeze everytime I mouse-over a gem level up button or a gem on the ground even though patchnotes said this was fixed) so I don't think it's a connection or data issue really. If it lasted for a longer time I would blame ISP throttling conspiracy but that's not the case either.

On another sidenote, streaming myself and/or watching my own stream generates no such lag spikes. I would figure the upload from that would affect the lockstep more than downloading a youtube vid.

tl;dr, this happens, happens recently when it didn't used to at all, no idea why.

Edit: Project Free TV, for whatever reason, does not generate the lagspikes.

poe is more dependent on a low latency connection to their servers than "other games" and that's never going to change because ggg decided to move important calculations to the server while other games trust the client with these issues while making sure you're having no control over your pc anymore with "anti-cheat" shit they require to be installed.

if you have latency problems you can setup your router's qos settings to prefer poe traffic from your gaming pc before other streaming data like youtube.

and if youre gpu bound when watching youtube while playing just uninstall the flash player

I've been having this same issue since 3.0. I'm used to playing music off youtube while playing, and now I can no longer do that. PoE is the only game I have this problem with, so assumably it's a problem with PoE.

Hopefully they manage to fix it, though with GGGs track record with technical problems, I don't have a lot of hope.
Having this issue as well, have had it since 3.0, all previous leagues I've played have been fine. Looked for any solutions but it looks like these threads die out without dev response or user solutions.
