A few words about Global 820

"Challenge" hehe.

I'm surprised how many people here have experienced people asking for tips/fees in 820.

I didn't really play the leagues this time around so my only experience so far is Rampage, where 820 was awesome, and 1MthHC, where again it has been awesome. I've only seen one "trade" request which was for the boss kill.

I'm only 16/18 to completing the master missions even though my playtime has been very low by my old standards. Just need two more and then 9 levels where I don't do anything stupid for 4/4 :)

I've just started levelling a char in the 1MthSC but only played a few hours so far so still early days. I really hope it's not turning into what people are saying because as the OP points out the whole point of 820 is sharing, it's not sharing if you are charging!

That being said I understand why people pay for challenges and as long as it's only using in game currency I don't think it is a big deal. I've paid for the boss kill in HC as I don't want to have to level and gear my character up to the point that I can defeat Shrine Piety so it was 5c well spent in my opinion :)

I think we should start using /trade 820 for selling missions and /global 820 for sharing to keep things pure. Good suggestion OP. If enough people who do sell and buy challenges etc use /trade 820 it will catch on and keep everyone happy. I'll try it next time the situation arises, hopefully everyone else will as well

Using your logic trading is also cheating as it purely saves time. Yes I could gear my character purely self found but it would take a lot longer. 820 is exactly the same thing. Do you trade?
The funny part of 820 nowadays is that players on it think that reddit has any power over Path of Exile chat, 820 is still a global chat, yet people start harassing others that are speaking about global stuff about the game on the chat, even if it is challenge related, because they made a self rule about 820 based on Reddit's etiquette post. We should be happy that global stuff non masters/challenge related is just once in a while, not flame them as if they were breaking the rules, because they weren't.
Good post however i think that alot of users in there are easily triggered. I often kept global chat on during Perandus League and once an hour or maybe once every 30 minutes youd often see a user saying theyre looking for something but getting yelled at for non-existent "spam" they were being accused of.

Soo i think you need to add something else to your post saying that users need to respect the needs of others and unless theyre legitimately begging or spamming for things its completely uncalled for to yell at them (because it happens all the time).

If people are really that triggered by people every once in a while saying theyre looking for a trial or something, then we should create a separate channel for trials and try to inform people of the new proper channel.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Do you mean people talking about 'off-topic' things in 820? It only exists to do the things OP listed - the fact that it's a 'general' channel isn't because general chatting is it's intended purpose - it's because GGG doesn't give us the tools to do something as specific as master-trading, so we have to use the closest proxy. Given our choices are 'trade' or 'general'...it's totally disingenuous to say 'well it's a general channel so ppl should be able to talk about anything'.

Either way that's one of the big reasons I almost never use it outside of a couple days for master rotations from 6 -> 7. Over half the people in the channel treat it like it's their personal guild chat, reddit post, or 4chan thread. "Dropped my 3rd Sadima's Touch of the day lolz!" Stfu with that shit, no one cares. There are infinity other general channels you can take that to where an equal amount of people still don't give a shit, but at least they'll be less annoyed than the people using 820 for its intended purpose.

I'm talking about the harassment most give towards the "LF tier 14 twinned" or alike, and towards global talk game related however:

OP has no power to put rules on a chat he doesn't own.

In a matter a fact, it does mean. As long as the general chatting is gane related.

They are in the right to say that on a global chat, even if you don't care.

Global 820 just like any other global chat, is intended for global chatting, as long as it is game related. Unless GGG announces that 820 is to be used for masters/challenges only, or make specific rules for it, it will always be just another global chat, just one mostly populated with people doing masters/challenges. Redditer's do not have authority over GGG's chat.

In theory. In practice, "chatting" too much on 820 will just get you on everybodys ignore list.

"LF xy" spammers get annoying pretty fast. Know that absolutely nobody is writing down your names, to eventually call you later when they encounter xy. By spamming LF too much, you are just getting on peoples ignorelist and diminishing your chances to get what you are looking for.

Just sayin'. Everyobody is ofc free to do whatever they want, within GGG rules :)

By your own 'logic', even if GGG announces that 820 is to be used for xxx, that wouldn't matter to you. Because the name still says global. Is the chat channel beholden to its namesake, or are outside influences allowed to shape its purpose? You can't have it both ways.

It would matter, if GGG said so, not if a Reddit guy said it. GGG makes the rules, we follow it or get punishment, if GGG actually made an official statement about 820 being for the sole purpose of Masters and Challenges, I would be happy myself, but they didn't. And I am pretty sure if they wanted to make something for such purpose, they would instead make a new type of chat, and in the top of your chat it would appear:

O Global Chat O Trade Chat O Masters Chat O Challenges Chat.

"
Is the chat channel beholden to its namesake

It is actually. Altough it would be a nice idea to add a new type of chat for masters with it's own specific rules.
