Why Doesn't Lightning Warp most of the Time?

LW even fails sometimes when you teleport across an empty Gorge. It should automatically pick the next-best location if the one you cast at can't be reached for some reason.

I found that for opening boxes a slow LW is probably better than the near instant LW you can get with reduced duration and fc.
1) Clear area around the chest, possibly explode corpses
2) Move towards the box
3) Initiate LW to a place as far away as possible
4) Open the box
5) Disappear and materialize a few meters away

It sometimes fails in the way that you were to slow to open the box and have to try again. OTOH accidentally opening the box and finding yourself in a mess doesn't happen that often. Moreover, doing it as I described also takes a lot of the horror our of freezing and ice nova chests. DD chests still are a problem if you don't clear the area first since it seems to have a huge range.

Stats: 3200 life, 1000 unreserve mana (CoD), 22K DPS (EK)....not a tank but can usually survive most stuff. White mobs should not have killed me.

Basically, you're playing cat and mouse, hoping to dodge spike damage with a glass cannon. In this case, using 20/20 fast cast and reduced duration for an ultra-fast Lightning Warp is just as chancy as running around with extreme move speed. While you can outpace anything on the Client, you can't override the Server, and when you desync your speed is likely to take you far off course.

If you don't like getting nailed on occasion, you'll need to prepare to take more spike damage without getting stunned. Much like yours, my LW Witch has only 3500 HP. But in addition, she has 1200 ES, 154 Arctic Armor, 150 life regen/sec, and 8% life leech pumping ES via Ghost Reaver. With all this, she can take abuse from most bosses, but will often get floored by Rogue Exiles.

In my experience, you can't rely on LW alone to bail you out of Strongbox spawns. I lay down multiple Cold Snap traps before triggering a box, and still count myself lucky to escape unscathed.

i have unwavering stance and leap slam with very fast attack speed, i click on a box with ice nova and then immediately leap slam away, 9 times out of 10 it goes well, but then i get strongbox opening lag or whatever and BAM, i am dead. bb 10% xp

i started playing half a year ago, this and the reason behind desync, protecting the economy against hackers, killed the fun for me.
PoE is a fucking great game, the skilltree, the gems, the orbs, the lore, the atmosphere... so good! but unfortunately i can't enjoy it any longer.

All that anti cheating mechanic is killing player base more successful than actual potential botters would.

Client and server disagreement.
It happens too much in PoE, it doesn't help that skills, content and even terrain are designed as if the client and server will always be in sync, poor optimisation just makes things even worse. The results are a meta game that I think GGG actually like, it isn't helped that there's always an army of 'gudgamerz' ready to 'gitgud baddie' at anyone who doesn't play well at, or even want to play well at the bizarre meta game of PoE desync.

Now, what can you do?

LW will often fail, in that you see the warp but you don't move. Client said yes, server said no.
This is likely just down to slight positioning (we will usually be out of sync at least some, at all times) where the warp passed the check on the client but on the server it didn't.

Prediction. You can try to predict where you may be on the server. Or rather, when casting a warp, you will obviously pick a point which works for your position as you see it, extending that to .. picking a point that works for where you see yourself but also a point that would work from anywhere in an area around you, where you may actually be on the server. LW, apparently has a similar check to a projectile, although when the dev explained this, I did find it quite puzzling, as there are places I can warp to that a projectile can't.

Boxes. 20/20 lightning warp with reduced duration is great, it warps you at good speed, especially so with a lot of MS. But it sux on strongboxes.

For strongboxes, the answer is quite simple. I'm not gonna say 'smoke mine!!11' I think the acceptance that smoke mine should be mandatory is silly. Stick with LW, but not reduced duration. Not even increased duration. Just a lvl 1 LW, unlinked.

Quality on LW increases cast speed, so you can fill your boots with quality, cast speed is great. But level on LW reduces warp time, this is bad, for boxes.

Take your lvl 1 warp, quality it to 20 or as far as you want, or leave it at 0 quality, hell link it to enhance if you want, the quality is really just QoL. Stand next to box, pick a point to warp to, execute warp then click the box. The box opens but you have pretty much instantly GTFO of there from the already cast lvl 1 warp.

It isn't foolproof, but it is by far the safest (or easiest, safest) use of LW with boxes. I think I've had a malfunction once only in several hundred boxes. One too many, sure, but this is PoE, shit's broken by default (and by design).

It seems like most replies are of the "you suck" variety, which I don't mind if thet're legit, but I'm offering examples/info of why their points aren't true....I did not desync, this issue with lightning warp happenes all the time even when I'm by myself....
i still don't know what you're saying. I know you post on here a lot and you play a lot, but I don't know what you're saying.
