Latency keeps freezing?
For the last 3 days I have been having random moments where my latency will freeze at one number.
While it is "frozen" I can run around but nothing responds. This usually lasts up to a minute, if it doesn't cause me to disconnect and then I will spring back to the place where it started. I havn't changed anything and it's not like I am lagging...since it freezes at 40-50 ping. Plus it only happens in this game. I don't really know what other information to provide...so please ask if you need anything else. I really want to play but it's been really hard, especially with the threat of dying in hardcore. Thanks in advance. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/747490/page/11 You are Hardcore into....

Hey Shendy,
Does this occur regularly at a certain time of day? To start with, we recommend checking that your firewall and antivirus are not interfering with Path of Exile's connectivity, and using a wired connection to your router/modem. Additionally, be sure to turn off any third-party programs that are using your network while we diagnose this. Once you have done the above, can you please provide a WinMTR report? Let this WinMTR run to your preferred gateway when you next have this issue for 200 packets sent. Need Support? support@grindinggear.com.

" I occurs randomly. My Firewall and Antivirus are not doing anything with PoE. I am using a wired. I don't run anything third-party on my computer anyway. I did the WinMTR thing and did everything it said. I also ran it while I was experiencing a 1600 latency freeze and let it run for exactly 1 minute 7 seconds. I saw in the screenshot in that link you posted that the guy had 19 Nr or something...Well I only got 5. Lastly is there anything I should block out in that WinMTR thing before I post it? Oh and I use AU.login.pathofexile.com in the host field by the way. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/747490/page/11 You are Hardcore into....

" When you say you don't run anything third-party on your computer, what exactly do you mean by that? Almost everything outside of Windows itself is considered "third party" in most cases... it really depends on your point of view. You should completely disable all Antivirus/Firewall/Security types of software, even if you don't think they're doing anything. There are a LOT of documented issues around here with various types of security software where people thought they weren't doing anything only to find out that their issue was a result of their security software (which is not usually configured properly, or is completely useless the majority of the time). Avast is one of the worst, so I hope that isn't one you are using. If so, you need to completely disable it after setting it to its lowest possible setting. Only then can you even have a hope that it isn't interfering (and it still might be). As for posting the WinMTR results, there really isn't anything you should edit unless there is some particular reason you're paranoid about the results. The first IP is likely something like 192.168.0.1 or 1.1... in which case, that is your internal router IP, and we cannot tell your public IP from that. No need to edit it. As for your second hop, that is your ISP gateway most likely, and again we cannot get your actual IP from it. Only thing it MIGHT contain is your city abbreviation name so we could technically figure out geographically a region you live in. Again, not something that you really have to be overly concerned with, but if you're paranoid about it, just XXX out the city name... please leave the rest of the address and data intact... and make sure when you XXX out the city/region, you only do it within the first few hops. After that, it can make it hard to figure out where your trace is going. |

I actually am using Avast....I will try disabling it. Other than that the only thing in my taskbar is my gamecon 780 headset settings and Solve PC issue thing telling me about my backup settings..
Here is the WinMTR results.

Also why would PoE start screwing up now? I've been playing it for 1 and a half years just fine. EDIT: I tried disabling it.....i still got latency freezes....infact I actually dced that time.. I am trying to play with a friend...hes 2 levels higher than me now...and we are both running out fo portal scrolls. -_- http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/747490/page/11 You are Hardcore into.... Something else is going on as you should have more than 5 lines in that trace. You're not listing any of the vocus hops, which there should be a few before you get to the server.
If you haven't already, I'd give your modem/router a good reboot, and again reboot the PC after disabling Avast. If you couldn't already tell, I'm very anti-Avast. I'm of the opinion that antivirus software in general does more harm than it does good unless you cannot control who uses your PC and there is a user of the PC who is not able to have safe browsing habits. In general, antivirus software will only catch things it knows about, and the most dangerous things it likely doesn't know about (zero-day exploits mainly), so it cannot protect them from you. As long as you aren't clicking all the links in anything someone emails to you, and you're not a common user of warez or pirated software, then you likely don't have an issue requiring the usage of an antivirus application. If you like using an antivirus solution, feel free to continue using it, but I think they generally waste power, waste cycles, waste RAM, and certainly get in the way more than they should. I DO have antivirus software on my PC (ClamAV), but it is only ran "on-demand"... IE: I download something and want to check it for known issues. I run it through an on-demand scanner and that's it. It doesn't run all the time in the background, and it doesn't interfere with my system processes. There are also a lot of other on-demand scanners if you want to get more results from more source (a lot of them are web-based where you simply upload the file and it checks it for you). Anyway.. enough about the wastes that are persistent AV solutions... There is something going on either with a firewall or something in your connection that isn't behaving and filtering results incorrectly. I'm not really sure at this point without more diagnostics or perhaps a different clean PC on the same network. |

Okay....so I restarted my computer and my router.
My Firewall is doing nothing to stop anything related to my internet or PoE...I checked. Also avast is doing nothing to stop anything related to my internet or PoE because I uninstalled it. I don't share your same views about Anti-Viruses. I started another WinMTR and this time got 10 NR. Here's the results:

I am still having the problem but I noticed that when I join the American gateway. Other than 280+ ping I don't get any latency freezes and it works fine....doesn't mean I want to continue playing on the American gateway though... So it's a problem with the Australian gateway. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/747490/page/11 You are Hardcore into....

Hey Shendy,
The fact that you have less connectivity issues when on the American Gateway indicates that there may be an issue with a node on your route to the Australian gateway, and there is a surprising amount of packet loss on the following hop: " As this packet loss continues throughout your trace, it is possible that this is the cause of your disconnection issues. The large latency spike early on your second hop is also cause for concern (latency spikes generally shouldn't occur this early in your route). Unfortunately this looks to be an issue with a node controlled by your ISP's route providers, and as such we recommend contacting them and giving them this trace so they can fix it where they can. Need Support? support@grindinggear.com.

" Thanks for the help, but what do you mean give them the trace? I don't understand. o_o Also why would it just suddenly start happening out of nowhere? http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/747490/page/11 You are Hardcore into....
