Molten Shell Questions (synergies)




i found this the other day. at the moment its pretty low % mod. But it gives my molten shell about 300 more damage. And thats without speccing into fire damage yet.

It takes advantage of the Templar and Witch increased area of effect nodes, which are very powerful in conjunction with Molten Shield. Also you skipped Pyromania (30% increased burn damage) which is insane since Molten Shield will be dealing a ton of fire damage later. This correlates to more burn damage (it is based on how much fire damage you dealt for the attack that burned them). I also choose to take the "life on kill" nodes because 20 hp for each kill will be a huge heal after you kill like 5-10 guys with 1 blast of Molten.

Now obviously no one expects to have 110'ish points so this build is a bit more on par with what you could expect if you make it through Merciless:

I went that route initially for unwavering stance...meaning you'll get hit regardless -- meaning the shell should technically proc more. But you do raise a valid argument. You still think its not worth the point investment to get there?
Considering that you will have basically 0 evasion, the only bonus you will be getting is not getting stunned. Since you will be going for high armor, that isn't the greatest bonus in the world (high armor means reductions will make it less likely to lose big chunks of life). I would focus more on big booms for your Molten Shield. Also, I would get some kind of skill build like this:

Molten Shield + Chance to Ignite + Increased Area of Effect + Elemental Proliferation
Fireball + LMP + Concentrated Effect + Fire Penetration
Enduring Cry + Flamability/Elemental Weakness + Increased Duration
Determination + Vitality + Tempest Shield + Reduced Mana Cost

Molten Shield is actually a very mana intensive spell for Maurauders as it will start costing 100+ mana at higher levels with decent supports on it. So causing it to trigger at a fast pace might not be the best idea. Using Fireball as a shotgun skill for harder mobs is always a good idea.
