GGPK Defragmenter

How long have you been updating the Steam version client? Did you try wiping the Steam version and then re-downloading it again? I wonder if that makes any difference?

Also, has anyone tried the defrager (really just trim, not defrag) on the Steam version ggpk manually (with Steam client closed)?

Steam auto-updates PoE everytime I login, so I always have the latest version.

For science I deleted all my Steam PoE files. When I want to reinstall PoE, Steam wants to download 12290 MB (version 2.4.0f).

Redownloading is going to take a while, but I guess the size suggests it is still the non-defragmented file.*

I ran defrag.bat and smart defrag last week. The content.ggpk shrunk to a size of ~7.6 GB like the standalone client and performance was subjectively the same. Maybe two days (and 2-3 restarts) later steam downloaded ~4GB of additional data and since then I have that extra large file again.

*Edit: after reinstalling PoE on Steam, content.ggpk file size is still ~11.8 GB.

GGPk space saved, 1.6GB

I wasn't able to get this thing work too. Drag-drop failed, running as admin failed, tried different compatibility modes but no luck.

This is what worked for me:
-Go to your PoE installation folder
-Copy the .exe there
-Shift + right click anywhere in the folder
-Click 'Open command window here'
-Send 'ggpk_defragment.exe Content.ggpk' without quotes and done.

Hope it works for you too.

EXE worked fine for me.

Been playing since beta but I did replace the ggpk once during one of the releases where GGG made the ggpk file ready for download via torrent before release.

Wouldn't use it on steam tbh, it has a tendency to be stupid about the game file and might just redownload the whole lot

you shouldn't defragment the resource file of the steam version of poe.

it will result in steam downloading the file again because steam requires it to be identical with the version ggg originally released. jonathan (lead programmer) confirmed this.

so you can't defrag steam version and make it flawless like standalone??
