Ground Effects. On Death Effects.
Really, the short of it is that Path of Exile has experienced runaway power creep since at least 2015 or so. GGG, desperate to keep adding new shiny things for players interested and "chase." There's been no adjustment, so player power is ludicrous; it's not hard to pass 1 million shaper DPS, compared to pre-2.0, when 10k tooltip DPS (let alone "shaper") was fully mapping-viable.
And yeah, GGG has utterly lost control of this process, leading to normal gameplay blitzing through each map in 3-5 minutes. (if not less) Since Chris and the gang stopped actually playing the game, they have no personal experience on how it feels in the endgame for us players. So they are kinda groping around blindly, relying on the same telemetry they've had for years. Basically, it boils down to them counting deaths, and that's about it. And boy, while near-invisible Howler cones or Cast-on-Death Cold Snap aren't even remotely creative, they certainly can do the trick for killing players! It's 2019, and GGG still hasn't learned that "deaths per hour" does not actually measure how much skill an encounter takes. By their measures, a boss encounter that simply rolled RNG, and instantly killed you (regardless of defenses) 50% of the time (and the other 50%, just sat there with 1 HP) would be called "their greatest challenge yet" by their metrics. :| So yeah, that's where we stand: GGG doesn't even know HOW to begin fixing the game's power creep and balance issue, and instead has to resort to terrible things to give something they can pretend is "balance" and "challenge," when in fact it really provides no "challenge" to even the worst players. And of course, their stubborn insistence on retaining instalogging in the game has prevented any fixes: they kind of HAVE to make all deaths instant with zero-warning, else all the HC players would just avoid them 100% of the time by hitting their logout macro. What's the trigger for those azurite death spikes in Delve? I just died halfway to 94 because one of those popped up and froze me. I didn't really have time to react. I'm not even at monster level 79 in Delve yet, so this is really scaring me about what's to come.
I hate those blue spikes. It slows me down for no good reason, and I don't even see a way to avoid them, they just pop up in random places. /popcorn always, because people

" They spawn when you finish every azurite node. No surprise there |

" No, those aren't what I mean at all. :) I mean the blue crystal spikes which spawn while you're actually delving along corridors. It happens while or after killing the bugs. /popcorn always, because people Dernière édition par deadamaranth#4371, le 3 févr. 2019 à 23:33:08

" Oh, yea that's those small blue weta bugs exploding after death. Just avoid running over them, detonate their corpses, use some other corpse removal mechanic, like what Pyre gives. So it's definitely not in random places and can be avoided Edit: cwdt + any offering can help so that once you take damage from one explosion - other corpses nearby will be detonated with the offering going off and do nothing Dernière édition par Nubatack#3979, le 3 févr. 2019 à 23:47:03

We have past the point of no return a long time ago, now power creep is king, and dangers are on death's effects ... ( not only, but they are to those builds have reach millions of dps.
That plus the clustercrap that the screen can become very quickly, since there are waaayy too many effects everywhere ... This is not going to last forever, I don't think I'll still be playing PoE next year to be honest. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

Thanks bud! I learned about these in the meantime, and now that I know what they are, I can take it into consideration. I'm Storm Brand, and I've bought and equipped a Call of the Brotherhood for extra freeze, hopefully I can just explode their corpses. At least knowing what it is will help.
Previously, I would just die and have no idea what was causing it or what to do. /popcorn always, because people Dernière édition par deadamaranth#4371, le 4 févr. 2019 à 21:03:21

" It was a bit buried in my post immediately above, but it's a delayed "cast on death+Cold snap" ability. Every single "Unstable Weta" has it, and yeah, the damage scaling on it is much stronger than it is for most other monster abilities. As mentioned, if you can destroy the corpse in time, it won't go off. So it's easiest if you just shatter all enemies, or, if doing fire damage, pack a Pyre. (this is another reason I favor it so strongly over "cold-to-fire support" for elemental hit) " Yeah, this is a problem that by far is the biggest threat to PoE's continued success. I could totally see the game going into serious decline (not closing, just distinctly SHRINKING) within a year or two if GGG just keeps hurtling on the same path. There's a lot of things they NEED to do to avert it, but a lot of them are tied to things they stubbornly erect as barriers to themselves. Right now, and after all those years it hurts to admit, but here you go:
I DO NOT KNOW HOW THE GAME LOOKS LIKE ANY MORE. I really, truthfully don't. Or, specifically, the screen looks like whatever the skill I chose to cover it with. State of the game. Should enemies become little pink boxes overnight, I am concerned that I would not notice. So that is the quelle of our issue I think. You either : go really, really fast, or really, really slow (~not preferable), or you shatter enemies so they do not leave ground effects :-/ And the smiley is there because I feel like I have been used, manipulated, tricked into using something just because it is right now an elegant way of dealing with something nasty. IF those frost ground nukes would be less frequent, but easily spotted and one can actually in good faith expect to get away from them in time, well, then I'd say its OK. |

" ^ THIS! GGG is completel unable to balance the game anymore therefore they stack on death effects and one shoot mechanics trying to slow people down. German saying: Schönheit und Funktionalität in Sekundenschnelle zu ruinieren, ist dem wahren Dilettanten keine Herausforderung!
