Base hit * (1+Y) (standard modifier) * Ignite factor (0.2 or 0.5) * (1+Y) (Vortex DoT extra modifier).

The second (1+Y) factor comes from the vortex mechanics. That's the double dipping I've argued about.

It seems like you have missed a pretty big change...

:(((((((

Did I really miss it :(. Is that true? Yeah, I haven't played PoE for a year (14-15 months).

What about all the CoC Vortex builds out there? Even Mathil's build? They are all dated?

For all the times I have played, I have been a loser. I've got a total of "zero" uber atziri kills under my belt. I didn't try shaper that much with my old CoC+Vortex (a year ago).

It seems I'm still destined to be a loser. I won't ever kill uber atziri or shaper. I cannot help being nostalgic here. I've given several big breaks between my plays. My first play dates before the Act 4 expansion where I spent "472 fusings + 472*20 armourer scraps" to six link my occultist vestment. Back in those times, I've learned of poe.trade after I took Atziri down myself after 40-50 tries or so. Good old days when PoE was a "lite" but good game.

Adghar has put an explicit example already with numbers. His example shows double dipping.

Not as far as most people used to call "double dipping."

IF my example were to show double dipping, it'd look like this:

WITH the unique modifier as of Patch Old.Old.Old:
Hit deals 101 * (1 + .5 + .4 + .3 + .1) damage,
Ignite deals 101 * 0.2 * (1 + .5 + .4 + .3 + .2 + .1) * (1 + .5 + .3 + .2 + .1),
Ground effect deals 99 * (1 + .5 + .4 + .2 + .1).

NOT like this:

WITH the unique modifier the .1 simply gets tacked onto the Ground DOT portion, for:
Hit deals 101 * (1 + .5 + .4 + .3 + .1) damage,
Ignite deals 101 * 0.5 * (1 + .5 + .4 + .3 + .2),
Ground effect deals 99 * (1 + .5 + .4 + .2 + .1).

That depends on how you define "losing"! I've never defeated Uber Atziri, and yet I still enjoy the game loads and loads. That's a win for me.

Thankfully(?), the game developers have been fairly heavy-handed with their buffs nowadays, so you might try last league's flavour of the month - Arc Trapper - or you might give the latest patch-buffed builds a try (Guardian + Herald of Purity + Holy Relic + Dominating Blow, or, Pathfinder + Virulence + Poison shenanigans).

There is a guy who constantly makes fun of himself for never clearing endgame content (johnKeys) - I don't think he ever cleared Uber Lab in the past, even - and he's cleared every single endgame goal there was with Arc Traps in Incursion, including Uber Atziri, Shaper, Guardians of Shaper, Elder, Uber Elder, etc. It received a slight nerf with Delve patch, but Arc Traps are still very strong, because Arc base damage didn't get touched nor did infinite Trapping get reverted.
