Map sustain - stats from running 10 Tier 8 maps
Hey all - there's been a lot about map sustain in the forums so I thought I'd do a bit of a study this evening and run 10 T8 maps. Admittedly it's a small sample and I'll add to it over time, but here are the results.
I'm a casual player, working my way tier by tier through the atlas, currently at 77% atlas bonus. In terms of the maps, all were run at T8 and were alched, but nothing else. No Shaper or Elder influence. All monsters killed (max was 3 remaining) and chests opened/barrels destroyed - side quests/masters completed. Stats are Map Name / IIQ / IIR / Pack% / Maps drop by tier Mineral Pools 55 / 29 / 19 / 3,8 Mud Geyser 68 / 41 / 26 / 3,7,10 Shore 74 / 43 / 28 / 3,8 Tropical Island 55 / 33 / 21 / 5,6 Tropical Island 65 / 39 / 25 / 8,8 Tropical Island 68 / 41 / 26 / None Geode 49 / 29 / 19 / 8(S),9,10 Courtyard 78 / 47 / 30 / 2,4,7,10 Shaped Iceberg 58 / 34 / 22 / None Vaal Pyramid 58 / 34 / 22 / 3,9,9 In terms of map sustain, I've come out very slightly ahead with 11 maps of 8 or greater. T8 = 5 T9 = 3 T10= 3 The best overall map haul was from the lowest IIQ/IIR map - lol... Only 2 T7s, so not quite enough to vendor for another 8. I also found a further 8 maps of <=T6, which aren't much use to me now. In terms of currency I'm down. I spent 10 Alchs on the maps and 2 Scours. I got back: 3 Alchs 0 Scours If you include the rares/uniques I sold I made back another 4 alchs, giving me a net loss of 3. I also got: 5 chisels / 2 sextants / 1 chaos So over time, based on this small sample, if I could keep my Alch stocks going I would very gradually inch forward towards sustaining tier 9 and 10. Things were looking considerably less good prior to the final map when I got 2 T9s to drop, but RNG is RNG. If I wanted to spend chisels and sextants on the maps, then I'd rapidly run out of currency, so I'm sticking to alchs only just now, until I manage to reach red maps. I don't know how much difference an additional 20% IIQ would make, but I would quickly deplete my chisels and I prefer not to trade for currency if I can avoid it. It doesn't feel that I should have to do that to move through the core game feature. Anyway, I'm throwing this data out there - would be interested to see similar results from others, or thoughts on my data. Cudger. Dernier bump le 30 mars 2018 à 12:30:48

Most would agree that T8, alch and go produces a profit over time. That's not what they mean be sustainability.
They're talking T12 and higher, and your rates wont apply to those. Map drops get rare at higher tiers. I'm pretty well convinced that alch-and-go stops being sufficient about T11. You'll have to run T10 maps now and then to maintain T11. So I start chiseling then. |

My experience with mapping makes it really feel like GGG is fiddling knobs with it constantly. Some days I'll chisel, alc, and vaal or Bloodlines, and just get nothing from 7 or 8 maps in a row. Other days I'll get multiple red maps dropped per map. My new strat for map sustain is probe a few each day, and if it looks bad, just run yellows or whites for the day. There is some inherent streakiness in RNG, but when you consistantly flip heads long enough one day only to flip tails the next day, and almost NEVER alternate within a day, I can't help but feel certain there is something more going on. Accuse me of Tinfoilism if you like, it's whats working for me.

Keep better records. What's happening to you there is that you're not noticing the days where you flip-flop and are giving too much credit to when you streak. Don't fall for it. It's natural and you can avoid it by keeping clear records.
Or not... and just live in your fantasy. No big difference to me or anyone else. |

Best way is to run all maps plain, 0% quality.
Although, GGG can change drop rates at any time without telling us. So, studies are sketchy at best. |

Jezus problem are NOT yellow maps I have tons of them. Problem is T12 and higier. As my character leveling I'm finding less and less maps I do all the same like 10 levels ago but less and less red maps are dropping. There is no issue with yellow maps.

Two problems with your test. One, as pointed out by others, T8 maps are not the problem. Two, 10 maps isn't a very strong test. I've had hot streaks that lasted 4-5 maps and they can really mess up the results of a 10 map run. Same thing for dry spells...

" Once you have high map bonus and a good map pool, you sustain T11 maps by only alch maps from T9 - T12 range with shaper/elder buff. But to create my T11 and T12 map pool I went with alch - chisels - zana mod - shaper/elder buff(no sextant). It was costly and took some time for sure. Same method applied for T13. Working on my T14 map pool now. Dernière édition par noisakrach#3033, le 30 mars 2018 à 01:49:51

Map drops definetly goes down since new Bestiary league, but not so much as ppl say here. I can easily sustain red tier maps, with some buying from time to time. I'm already recording data of each map I make in spreadsheet with info about IIQ of running maps and map drops for each tier. Sometimes I'm getting even 5 or more T15 maps on ONE T15 running with 85% IIQ, sometimes I get nothing even with 150% IIQ, but averaging its two red tier map drops per map running.
My main rule is to chisel+alch+vaal each red map I'm running. Also usually I'm trying to run maps in elder/shaper influence for additional mobs/specific items. For T14-15 I'm adding also sacrifice fragment(s). After running enough maps I will summarize my results. I believe that SSF players can have a lot of problems with atlas progression, but for non-SSF player map drop problem does not exist at all. |

" I'm sorry, but either you must be extremely lucky (as in "consistently lucky") or this must be a plain lie. I've done over a hundred red maps the last few weeks and I'm getting - very consistently - only 1 red map to drop every 4-5. I think I had only 1 map, out of those 100+ maps, to drop 2 red maps. And Yes, I run also alched, chisseled, vaaled. All of them... |
