The truth about totem builds.

I'm done with totem builds! The fact is, it's really dependable when you're a newbie to this game. It's easy to play and you get tons of DPS but the downside of a totem build shows at end-game. I really got frustrated as I can't go further than 91 with this build so yeah, I will try something else. hehehe. Well this is only my opinion.

Yeha, but when play in HC ... totems are the most secure(and mines/traps) build.

So now again try to make Facebreaker AW get to lvl 90 in LHC :)
Right now I'm doing and RF juggernaut. Seems really cool and safe.
Well don't be as I'm pretty sure more people will share their experience with totem builds in this thread (fingers crossed).hehe.

I think I'm not really into totem builds. The gameplay is also boring. You place a totem and let them kill your enemies and in boss fights, once you don't have end-game gears, you need to dodge every single hard blows by the boss.

Again, that's my opinion. I don't know how pro players feel about totem builds. But to be fair, I'm still using a totem build to level up my character fast. LOL. hahahaha. Yeah totems are really kind of OP in terms of breaking start to mid-game. But it gets boring in end-game IMO.

That's kind of why totems are popular: They don't need gear to work, which is why the league was dominated by Flameblast Totem until everybody started dying and using the gear they had already collected to branch out into other meta builds.
Yeah. It's like do a totem build now to level up and then switch to the build you like later. :P
I've still built more totem builds than everything else put together. Love totems so much <3.

Pic related.

Have you done something awesome with Sire of Shards? PM me and tell me all about it!
Ehh... I'm just not a fan of Totem builds, since they're really good.

It feels like cheating.

So safe because you just plop down totems and 100% of your attention can be just for dodging/kiting everything.

Sure you get that damage and cast speed penalty from them, but multiple totems alleviates that.

No reflect as a concern, only downside is no leech either.

Can still go crit, unlike DoT builds that might play in a similar manner.

But yeah... Playing Totems, it just feels a bit lame to me. It's like, why bother make a good character when I can just plonk down some totems and not need to have very good defences, mana sustain, leech or even aura's because these sticks will do all my work while I just run around like an idiot, not caring about a thing in the world (No need to worry about reflect, corrupted blood, volatiles or whatever, because Totems will get those things on them, not me)

But then again, that's just me. I personally tend to play very aggressively in games, I like to be up in the thick of things. Unfortunately, PoE isn't really balanced for that playstyle being that effective outside a few ridiculous builds (Like BV)... So cheese with Totems/Traps/Mines are really good, while trying to box things as melee is meh at best in comparison...
Well, I like playing my "uninstall.exe" Blight Totems. They're slow paced an methodical, just right for someone like me that gets easily confused. But a DPS check, they will not master. The Putrid Cloister boss, simply overwhelmed me in the second phase. Couldn't kill everything quick enough to stay on top of things.

Into the Labyrinth!"
I play totem builds profusely recently and the end-game weakness the OP mentioned is true. But isn't it true to any skill you play again and again because of its efficiency end up being boring or worst give it up if you can't get past L92? Anybody else went through some phases too when choosing builds? I used to play a lot of necro that shifted to arc and then melee, dipped into range with bow builds even whispering ice. But since my gaming rig gave up on me it's been flame totems and now triple scorching ray totems. So It's out of necessity for me since totems are quite safe with lag and freezes while using a tomato PC.

I'm definitely not bored with it now playing SSF. It's non-unique dependent and so easy to gear up. I also prefer it's slow pacing and can be engaging too if you spice it up a bit. Cast orb of storms to weaken mobs/bosses by letting EE kick in with a double curse to boot and then melt anything with a single strong S. ray totem or up to three carefully positioned weaker ones that can't be targeted easily.
