The principle of killing POE's bosses
OP, you should take a look at the Wikipedia page on armor mechanics, and it'll become obvious to you why people use stuff like endurance charges, flasks. or even dodge instead of flat armor against big bosses. At least dodge can save you some % of the time, where armor doesn't really do much of anything.
Example; you need 10x the armor of the physical damage the hit does to mitigate half of the damage, so if you take something like an Izaro sweep attack which does ~5.5k physical damage unbuffed...you'd need 55,000 armor to negate half of that...which is a fuckload of armor and pretty much unattainable for most characters. More likely you have around 15-20k armor, which will negate like...20% of the damage? Which is the equivalent of a single basalt flask. So, really, your best bet is to get a huge HP pool, be it ES or life, and then get some flat mitigation like endurance charges, flasks, arctic armor, fortify, lightning coil, etc. Armor is only good for many small hits like you're likely to experience during mapping. |

" I got to 37 challenges in prophecy, my first league, without knowing about elemental penetration, the armor formula, the difference between increased and more, chaos damage and how it really worked, the fact that you could roll strongboxes and stuff other than gear, and a bunch of other mind blowingly obvious things. I also only learned about poetrade about 2/3 through the league, vendored a shav's I found on my first char, and bought a corrupted rotc without realizing what corruption did. So tldr you can actually get a lot done while being pretty clueless. |

" I got 27 challenges just by playing the game xD It literally happened by accident... |

" im assuming this was on SC? I dont see any any key!

^^ Oh for sure, I had a tree that was all damage yet only reached maybe 28k damage. Didn't really understand how supports worked either so I actually had a 6L pledge that was essentially a 4L because I was using innervate and something nonsense like faster attacks with storm call. I died literally every time I saw a reflect pack. Somehow I made it to level 90 with what must have been superhuman patience.

" You mean that league where... like 80% of people play? HC tough-guyism in the current year lol U MAD?

" Im well aware that the majority of player play SC but when people say thing like i got to 37 challenges on my first guy my immediate reaction is to call BS because im used to looking at things from a hardcore perspective. SC just doesn't always register to me lol I dont see any any key!

The thread title should be changed to:
"Armor: What is it Good For - Absolutely Nothing" I cried a little inside when I read the statement, and I am paraphrasing: "And for purely physical fights there are better ways to mitigate physical damage than armor". THAN ARMOR. THAT SECOND SKIN OF STEEL AND LEATHER AND SUCH. Sense - this makes little of it. Armor really needs a revamp. Seriously, I made a Chieftain totem build this league and just wore stuff that had stats I desired, I didn't give a shit if it was eva or ES or armor. "Exactly. You see, armor is "technological" defence, and ggg doesn't like technology, they didn't even introduce guns in the game. Instead, we must use the thing that works much better, namely magic, in form of potions, "charges" (the heck are these lore-wise btw?) and mysterious sources of physical->elemental damage conversion. And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.
