Cold to Fire Conversion

I have a Question regarding the Cold to Fire Conversion. From what i see 100% Conversion can be reached with

- pyre unique ring
- Avatar of Fire + Cold to Fire gem

From those Options the pyre ring seems superior. The ring has decent stats and you save 1 linked skill gem and 1 and the skill points to the Avatar of fire node.

Oppinions?

You also have used one ring slot and forfeited the added damage the gem gives, and you won't have bodies if you want them for zombies or whatever.
Really depends on what you want to do.

Isn't a "no" better than an ignore?
If you run avatar of fire + cold to fire, you can then equip 1 call of the brotherhood ring to convert 100% lightning to cold to fire.

Edit: You can also run phys to lightning + call of the brotherhood + cold to fire + avatar of fire to convert 100% of phys damage to fire

Wouldn't that actually convert ALL the damage (except for chaos, because chaos) to fire?
I make dumb builds, therefore I am.
Yes, it would.
50% of phys to lightning, 50% of lightning to cold, 50% of cold to fire, and 50% of all of those to fire.

ok for clarification. I am thinking about a totembuild using coldskills. I want to 100% conversion to use the chieftain ascendandcy class.

I understand that i get extra damage from the cold to fire gem. But any other gem would result in more damage!?

So using pyre seems like the right coice for me?

Well, if you need no corpses, and have better supports available, then yes, I think the Ring is a good choice.

I see this a lot, and I can't fathom how it makes sense.

Let's say you do 100 damage as phys. Make the numbers simple.
1- 100 Phys.
You convert some.
2- 50 Phys, 50 Lightning.
Convert more.
3- 50 Phys, 25 Lightning, 25 Cold.
Convert.
4- 50 Phys, 25 Lightning, 12.5 Cold, 12.5 Fire.
Then AoF.
5- 25 Phys, 12.5 Lightning, 6.25 Cold, and then the 12.5 fire that stays unconverted, for a total of 56.25 damage as Fire, making all this work a net loss of 43.75% of your damage.

So....Take out all the added work, free up your rings/gems, and just get AoF, and then lose another 6.25% damage in exchange, or just don't convert.

I mean, I'm clearly doing the math right here. The conversion's pretty plain. Yet I keep hearing this said, and never see it work, or get an answer as to why this is somehow possible without losing all that damage. People keep saying it as if it's 100% conversion, no damage lost...Is there some huge mechanic I'm missing?

You'd be right if conversion stacked multiplicatively. But that's not how the game treats it. Conversion stacks additively in Path of Exile.

1- 100 Phys.
Out of all your conversions containing Phys, you have 50% phys to fire and 50% phys to lightning.
2- 50 fire, 50 lightning.
Out of all your conversions containing Lightning, you have 50% lightning to fire and 50% lightning to cold.
3- 75 fire, 25 cold.
Out of all your conversions containing Cold, you have 150% cold to fire. It is down scaled to 100% cold to fire.
4- 100 fire.

That sounds like Multiplying isn't the issue, the issue is that for some reason, GGG runs all conversions at the same time, in the same layer. If these were all run separately, as they all SEEM to, I'd be correct, but for some reason GGG runs them all together, apparently. If they ran separately, then all those places where you said "out of all your conversions" wouldn't exist. This'd be the first game I've seen to do something quite that crazy. Remind me not to do multi conversion builds. I'll stick to doing the damage type I seem to be doing and give myself less of a headache, and support less crazy coding decisions.
