gets too difficult
" I think you were a bit over the top in your post, but I agree with most of what you said, even if to a much lesser extent. As for the gear, life and resists are the only important things in normal difficulty. It's nice to get armour on an armour character or evasion on an evasion character, but definitely not needed. Gear with life and resists is pretty easy to get. I end up with maxed resists on almost all my characters by the end of normal. Even my current character I'm doing a CI challenge on has almost maxed resists by late act 3, and that's with me maxing ES on every piece of gear possible (still all terrible ES gear, though). The stats also aren't really an issue. Even ignoring affix rolls on gear that show up at the very start of the game, they're both all over the passive tree and on very obvious pieces of gear like amulets. It's possible some new players are confused about where to get stats, but I've never seen it. Level requirements are incredibly obvious. I'm pretty sure everyone can easily figure out that they can meet those simply by leveling up. I completely agree on how terrible it is that the game explains nothing to players about monsters. I really wish there was some sort of bestiary in game, where every time you encountered a new monster information about it would added to the bestiary. I don't like how GGG expects players to look everything up on the wiki. Some information is much better suited to actually being in the game. |

Good post OP. I wonder how much money they lose not having a difficulty slider like any other arpg I ever played. Cya.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have tons of rpg experience so it's not like I am a newbie to the genre. As stated earlier, I kicked ass through Diablo 1 and 2 many times and beat Diablo 3 in just a few days on normal. Beat all the Elder Scrolls from Morrowind through Skyrim. Path of Exile has great gameplay but it gets like Diablo Hell level at the end of Act 4 in normal. I managed to get my Witch through and she is on Act 1 again but the Ranger I built just fights in circles. I have enough experience at these games that I don't usually die I just get tired trying because I get no where. I fight and kill and then potion and then potion and then finally retreat to heal and go back and after 30 minutes of this I just tired of playing. A few things I don't like about the game is the horrid exchange rate for drops, the rarity of finding something truly unique and good to use. The lack of good gems that can't be bought by exchange drops for gold because they give you so little. The inability to set more spells to quick use than 5 at a time. Who cares that I can gem 20 spells when it is hard to change your spells in the quick slots when you are fighting. Yeah you can get those passive gems but again they are hard to obtain so I go through most of the game with empty sockets. I'm still playing but just not as much as I used to because I get bored of the difficulty level.

play meta build.
play slower. If you dont want to this 2 things: poe is not game for you. Buy diablo 3. "Is there such a thing as an absolute, timeless enemy? There is no such thing, and never has been. I've just recently started playing again. First time I played I couldn't get past level 63. Now I have no difficulty doing maps. So I'll give you some tips.
When you start POE, there are a tons of things you don't know, so planning becomes key. Before making a character I usually spend 2-3 hours setting up talents and gear. Use these sites for it: http://poedb.tw/us/passive-skill-tree/ This one allows you to see shortest routes in the tree (really helpful) https://poe.mikelat.com/ Calculates mana reservation. Running with Etheral chains or Enfeeble is a really good way of upping defense. http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Path_of_Exile_Wiki This should be your base for all poe knowledge. Before making a character choose a spell you find interesting build your tree to fit this spell perfectly. http://poe.trade/ Use this site for trading items. A good way to start is outlined here, but some more specific tips: Perandus league is the cheapest league yet, so a lot of builds are easy to get, as Oro's Sacrifice (http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Oro's_Sacrifice) and Kaom's Heart (http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Kaom's_Heart) costs 1 exalted. Doing a Flicker build (Really easy and fast clear speed) or Earthquake (with Marohi Erqi http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Marohi_Erqi) is an expensive way to start, but once you get that first exalted it becomes really easy and fast. Although you should here note, that most spells work in a specific way, meaning they only benifit from certain things, and sometimes a spell has 2 sides of it, each benifiting from different things. An example could be Lightning strike (http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Lightning_Strike) " You need to figure out which part of the spell you want to boost. The initial hit or the projectile? The projectile in this case is the best, because the initial hit has no aoe. So unless you're doing something specific boost the projectile and not the melee damage. When making your build make sure to get 180% increased life first, this will prevent most dying (don't get it first in-game but first in the talent tree builder). Also make sure only to stack either physical damage or elemental damage, don't make a hybrid because this is really complex. This is how you make a build and this part is really fun if you ask me. Other people choose to copy builds, and there are a lot of detailed guides, that will make you a god of the game with no effort. But PoE is one of those games that are nerdy, and the more you nerd it, the more fun it becomes. If you do what I suggest here, you won't have any difficulty in reaching end-game (I made 3 characters who reached level 80+ in 2½ week with this method.) Good luck and have fun! | |
" Having more damage will help your problem with your Ranger. Get a better weapon, get better support gems, get a better passive tree, or do whatever else it is that you haven't done to get your damage up. On gems, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of how POE works. POE is not a game where you have a massive array of skills with countdowns that you switch back and forth between. On almost every build, you will have one (just one!) main damage skill that is used against groups of enemies. This is the skill you will be using 99% of the time. On some builds, you will also have one (just one!) single target damage skill. You will use this against tougher rares and bosses. On rare builds this will be different, but for generic builds like "my first archer," that's what you'll have. Get those two main damage skills. Something like Split Arrow or Lightning Arrow for groups, something like Frenzy or Burning Arrow for single targets. Get two 4-links. Link them with supports that boost your damage. Take all the other attack gems that you have and throw them on the ground, then walk away. You won't need those. If you ever want to switch to a different main skill to try it out, you can get leveled ones from the vendors cheap. If you don't have one, get a good bow. You optimally want one with either a ton of elemental damage on it or one with increased physical damage % and flat increased physical damage, depending on which nodes on the tree you've taken. Since this is POE, you probably won't find either of those. Either trade for one (they're super cheap at levels this low) or use the best one you've found. You can also trade a bow along with a rustic sash and a whetstone to a vendor to get a bow with increased physical damage %. Higher rarity sashes give you higher damage. Make sure you 20% quality the bow first for extra damage. It only takes four whetstones on a white bow, which is well worth 20% increased damage. Remember that monsters don't do damage to you if you instantly kill them. If you're using an unlinked Split Arrow with a terrible bow, it'll take tons of shots to kill enemies. You'll burn through life and mana flasks pretty quick. With a good bow with high damage and a 4-linked skill with solid support gems, it'll take very few shots to kill those same enemies. You will rarely even need to use your flasks. The problem here isn't that POE is too hard. It's that you don't understand what you have to do in POE, so you're ratcheting up your personal difficulty level a couple dozen notches. You also shouldn't be having trouble buying whatever gems you need from vendors. Unless you're ridiculously unlucky, you'll have plenty of orbs drop by the time you need to buy something. Make sure you're not wasting your orbs by using them on gear. I tend to alch 4-link white items when I find my first one for each armour slot while leveling. Aside from that, I save them to buy gems or for more important uses later in the game. Chance orbs are pretty useless early game, so you shouldn't be using them for anything other than buying gems. PoE has never advertised it self as this casual come-home-kick-back sort of thing, nor has it ever said anywhere that it's for everyone who loves RPGs.
It's punishing,it's difficult, often times unforgiving,it's the sort of thing that you play if you want a proper challenge. Especially it applies to new players,us,people who have played since the beginning have gotten used to it,most of us can pick a solid build from the getgo and faceroll almost anything as long as we have the bare bones gear. For new players such as you it's much more of a challenge, and most of us are here for that. As common and rude as it might sound, perhaps in this one case you really have gone done picking up the wrong sort of game :/ If this is hard for you you should have seen what it was like few years ago. No rest for the wicked.

" Wow. nice answer <.< it's actually a problem for some people, there are ppl that works a lot and don't have time to calculate and bla bla bla, write an advice instead of saying "this isn't your game then", it's not a good thing, ggg needs to improve the poe community, because POE isn't the game only for nolife players or people that actually play 6 hours at day that is A LOT for some people that work and like to go out with friends ecc.. PS: more ppl=money Dernière édition par Cniva#5136, le 6 mai 2016 à 14:16:59
