Why doesn't this work? Increased crit chance + aura
" Thank you for your insightful and helpful feedback. v.v " Yes, minions attack things.. so do players under an aura effect. Raising a zombie or summoning a skeleton does no damage. Mana is consumed and a minion is created. That's it, that's the entire scope of the spell. Support gems added to the spell effect the qualities that your new minion gets to enjoy. With an aura spell mana is consumed (or reserverd) and an aura is created. That's the entire scope of the spell, it does no damage. See where I'm going with this? It should be that support gems get to modify the qualities that aura has. Instead it seems that support gems only get to effect the mana that an aura consumes. (With the exception of AoE which does effect the qualities an aura has.) " No it wouldn't. I would expect the added damage from a support gem to an aura would behave the same way it does when added to an aoe spell. EG: put lightning damage on firestorm and then look at firestorms stats in your character screen. You won't see anywhere near the added dps advertised on the support gem, instead you only see a fraction of it, this is done for balancing reasons and the same thing can be done with auras. To say it's not intuitive is also wrong. Intuitively a support gems modifies the quality of a spell or skill given that the two "make sense". EG you can't put lesser multiple projectiles on spells that don't use projectiles. You can't put minion damage on a spell that doesn't create minions. An aura is a spell/skill, and should be subject to the same rules. Yes a good build built around maximizing auras could be quite powerful. But the same is true for any good build. ------------------------- Conclusion: it seems to me that the only answer I'm ever going to get is because auras don't do damage. In my honest opinion that is just a bad answer for reasons I've explained above. |

Using your logic, I can disarm your argument quite simply. You say that Added Lit has a limited amount of damage on firestorm for balance, but it is due to the multiplier that firestorm has. The game doesn't just say "it does x less damage" and instead says that whatever damage is multiplied by this number for your final damage, which was 10 or 20% for firestorm. An aura has no damage, which means a 0% multiplier.
Seriously though, no. Just no, we don't need to support more auras with shit, not even concentrated effect. The only supports that I know work with auras are Reduced Mana and IAoE and that's just fine. |
