Rat Cage is (probably not) Underrated

Edit: There was an error on wiki. Everything I say below doesn't really apply to the rat cage.

It just occurred to me what rat cage is meant to do. I know... I'm quite slow. But it's meant to replace cloak of flame in the end game for mokou's embrace builds. Giving 15% move speed and 200 life.

It's actually a build enabler!

I can't tell you how many times I changed my mind about trying a build because of its reliance on being ignited and the fact that cloak of flame has no ES or Life.

I stopped leveling a mapping character in Beyond once because I couldn't change my rings or chest. And it made doing maps a little dangerous to say the least. But now, I wouldn't have had to stop leveling if this chest had been out back then.

Did you read his post? He is clearly talking about The Rat Cage chest armor, not rats nest.

I think you are the slow one here :)

Considering that it gives -5 Max fire res and that resistances are god in this game, I think you end up weaker using RC over CF. Its just too much extra damage, the risk isn't worth it.

Rat Cage doesn't do anything for Mokou's builds. You'd still get ignited just as often as with any other chest(besides cloak of flame). Cloak makes you take a portion of phys dmg as fire dmg. Rat Cage does the opposite, you take more fire dmg which doesn't affect your chance to be ignited or ignite duration on you.

All those cute fire -> physical interactions might be useful some time later with interactions with other items, but currently the chest really only has three modifiers:

- Faster movespeed

- A bunch of life (but not as much as Belly in nearly all cases)

- Fire damage is now extremely lethal.

Some of the biggest hits in the game are fire damage. Max Res is the second most effective defense in the game (behind huge life/es pools). Losing max res is pretty much never worth it.

I presume there is a mistake in the OP reasoning, due to an error on the wiki.
I presume, because i don't have the rat cage myself, but looking at this screenshot

the conversion should be fire -> phys

BUT on the wiki is stated as phys -> fire (as cloak of flame)

Balrog is correct; the chest converts fire to phys, not the other way around.

The idea is based on the ancient torture concept where you place a rat under a bucket on someone's chest, then heat the bucket.

The rat will eat into the person's stomach to try to escape the heat.

In the same way, taking fire damage causes you to take physical damage.
