Crusader type character?
I'm thinking about making a character that uses a shield, with most likely max block, and melee, perhaps using the abilities "Tempest Shield" and "Vengeance" to proc things, perhaps blind, while smacking things with a weapon. I'm not sure if that is entirely possible, and was wondering how I should go about making a skill tree for that. Also, I was wondering how important spell block is for survival, since I am rather nooby at the game. I am not really concerned about clear speed, since I like more flavorful characters that can solo (possibly facetank?) most if not all content at its own pace. The problem is I have no idea how to start coming up with such a character, so I would appreciate any advice.

Check out the lazy Pally guide by Sovyn.
It's up for 2 years now and it is a very in-depth guide. I tried it once and it was pretty good. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/105920 If you want a Crusader like character, Templar is the only one close to that. |

" More flavour is good, but there'll always be content that hands you your body part of choice on a silver platter. Character class does not matter as much as in other arpgs, but as already mentioned Templar is probably a good choice or Marauder, who starts right next to the Templar and can easily reach the Templar's nodes. However, considering the speech and style, you should stick with the Templar. Bird lover of Wraeclast

" I've in the distant past made a blocking duelist that cleaved at very high speeds. I had a lot of trouble with the 78 map bosses, but otherwise did fine. I looked at the guide that was linked here, and its better than what I did. |

" Just want to add one detail, although I am also no pro: spellblock is indeed important. If you invest heavily in block, try to get one of the uniques that add spellblock. If you use a shield anyway, I'd bring Saffels Frame to swap if needed. (for example) Dynamit,

2H weapons (1h sucks aside from daggers and unarmed) And further more the only weapons worth using 2h are Axes for RT or Staff for crit. Far away from the thematical sword Crusaders burn things in holy flames, so you might want to try Infernal blow and AoF. Though most melee skills that require splash to work are dead. Another option would be molten strike. I think the closest thing you will find OP thematically and viably is a 2h crit molten strike build using a staff. I also think you can use lgoh+BM and run your entire mana pool for 2 60% auras and a herald? Someone will have to clarify. |

" Great news, that's the easiest Melee character to make! Only downside is, you can't wear pants anymore. my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes
----- Bug Fixes: People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. Also, we went ahead and made cyclone great for CoC casters while we were at it. |

" - Uses a shield, Check! - With most likely max block, Check! - Melee, Check! - Using Tempest Shield and Vengeance, Check! - Uses Blind, sure you can, so Check! - Smacking things with a weapon, in fact you can use any one handed weapon you like, Check! - Can solo and facetank almost anything in the game, Check! I would highly recommend you to check out Sovyn's Lazy Pally thread over in the Templar section, it checks all your requirements as I stated above. To answer your question about spell block, it is very important! Again, read Sovyn's Lazy Pally guide, it should cover all your questions. If you do have further questions, Sovyn is always replying to any questions related to the build in his thread as well. Have fun, it is a great build that has been going strong for over 2 years :) |
