Why did you or your friend quit playing POE?

i brought in total of 4 friends

One quit in his first hour of game , not his type of game .

Second quit after trying / learning the game for a bit and hating and shouting on me whenever i mention poe :)

Third turned out to be a mthrfking market flipping trade guru and makes tons of exalts out of thin air by ripping off noobs , he explains but i hate trading .He's got natural talent at scamming ( trading ! ) and finances my irrational build equipments :) . It all started with that single Rotp flip. Too bad he sucks at the game itself.
He's the reason i killed atziri ( had an ice cream bet ,i won :).

Forth is slow poke and takes weeks just to reach mapping but we have absolute blast discussing every possible builds while at it :) . Tried our first atzir together just to fail miserably :) Also hes the tank of our trio party so cant progess without him , well not really :)

And me i havent quit yet nor plan on anytime soon but only play temp leagues for a month of two after they start , i mean this game doesnt have enough content to keep you busy . I read posts where people quit after completing normal and can relate to it with Torchlight 2 where i had no reason to hit lvl cap or better gears.

I sincerely thought about quitting this game due to garbage issues like crashing to desktop when killing dominus on normal with first char ( those rageful moments , its the reason why i called in 4 th guy in game :) , obvious painful desync and getting bored to sleepless limbo state. No more complaints , rather i have many fond memories related to this game.

Tl;dr : 2 quit 2 still plays and i plan on playing a full temp league if not for the damned aching hand.

We love to farm, and that thrill of finally seeing something awesome drop is great. But this game... 99.999% of the loot in this game is completely trash because they want you to craft items. Okay fine, but the RNG algorithms they employ mean you'll fail at making anything good 99.9999% of the time. So you end up with a situation where the vast majority of the player base will never get to have good gear.

rng is intended to stop nolifers from totally dominating this game and providing a chance for casuals for occasional success without massive time investment.

i know games which were more rewarding to the time i played them but i didn't play them as long as poe because incentives to play are gone once you reach the top and run out of challenges.

poe isn't the game for easy and fast gratification. never been and hopefully never will.

I think a lot of people that like things the way they are have a misunderstanding of what those of us who prefer a different loot structure are wanting. I'm not looking for 'fast and easy' gratification, but I do EXPECT gratification at some point that makes sense based on the time and effort invested. This is not a job. This is not work. Games are supposed to be an enjoyable escape which for some happens after a long and hard day at real work. I sometimes wonder if people who don't have to work for a living (kids and independently wealthy people) are the only ones who actually enjoy this game being as punishing and unrewarding as it can be. Please don't take that statement as an insult, it is not meant to be taken as such.

Consider this: Between the three of us (myself and two friends that still play) we have thousands of hours of play time. We have:

1) Not yet successfully crafted a single great item
2) Gotten somewhere around 25 exalts dropped total between the three of us
3) Have only gotten one fairly decent self-found yellow (which was a bow)

I mean, I understand RNG (I majored in physics and minored in mathematics and computer science, though that was years ago), but keep in mind that there is no such thing as true randomness in computing. This game just flat out doesn't make sense with the type of RNG they choose to employ. For example: I've gotten uniques out of gray strongboxes, but a yellow strongbox with 1800% rarity will drop 4 white items. In no reasonable game universe should that happen. Why have quality at all if the RNG is going to be that extreme? Why have rarity at all? Why not just have a game full of white items and currency for crafting them?

A yellow strongbox SHOULD ALWAYS drop at least 1 yellow. A white strongbox can still have chance to drop better quality items. Look, I still enjoy this game, but I was also blessed with a decent amount of intelligence (perhaps too much for my own good at times), and this game is just flat out stupid in a lot of ways. But, that goes to show you that the things that PoE got right, they got really right, because the game is still fun to play in spite of it's own issues.

Edit: Something to add too, and this may be addressed in the future, I don't keep up with developer notes, but in any case: For a game that relies so heavily on trading and crafting, this game desperately needs a better in-game trading method. If someone only has a few hours a day to play (or less), let them actually play instead of having to spend that time sitting around and trading instead of playing. I've read some reviews of this game that describe it as some kind of trading/crafting simulator with light ARPG elements mixed in. They were obviously exaggerating of course, but it's a funny statement regardless.

I don't have a perfect solution, but something better needs to be added. Perhaps an auction house that automates the trading and selling process but only while the person is online. And this wouldn't completely negate the socializing aspect for those who feel like they need to socialize while playing a video game online. People can still negotiate with each other when they see an item listed, and still visit hideouts and make trades in person. (Personally, I couldn't care less about that aspect of the game, I don't play video games to socialize, I go hang out with my friends and family for that)

I quit every once in a while. There are a few problems that make me quit:

Metagame changes. Nothing like your build being good one day and having it nerfed the next.

People who abuse multiboxing or multiclienting. They usually have better PCs and can run many different VMs. I really wish they'd just allow us to go /players 6.

A select few control most of the economy. Usually flippers or botters or whatever, people who use either cheesy or outright not allowed tactics to put a stranglehold on the economy(of standard anyways).

Yes I know you can play self found, you might get really, really lucky or just nolife it and do well, but the chances of a self-found normal player actually competing with the top 1% gear wise is slim to none.

Trading is fine and all, but inflation gets pretty out of hand.

Kudos to GGG, I keep coming back because yeah, it's a great game. There are problems though that I believe need to be addressed.
The game needs a standard currency such as gold.

It's too confusing using items as currency.

An auction house would be nice too.
I usually quit because there is some T1 unique that they introduce that I covet like crazy but don't want to dedicate more than a couple hours here and there to the game. Then, whenever I get close to getting it they hint it might go legacy. Bam, goes from being 30 exalt to 60 exalt. Two weeks later it goes legacy and goes for 80+ exalts. I just get so sick of going:

Wow, I want a Kaom's heart. No. It is op. We let other people smash in monsters faces with it for two months, but it is too OP...

Well I want a Mjolner! That thing looks fun. No. This thing is ALSO OP. You are not allowed to have one. -checks how long Mjolner has been out- WTF! So people that can play 4+ hours a day can explode Atziri's face for over 8 months, but I can no longer hunt for one myself. Thanks. I appreciate it.

That is why I quit. Then people tell me that if I REALLY want it, I could get one. Well, yes, I did get myself a Mjolner finally. My girlfriend got really fucking pissed at me playing for 6 hours a day for a month to get one (I luckily got it before the price went over 100) and I no longer feel like playing again. I burned myself out.

I LOVE stuff like Mjolner. Fun OP item (I will admit it. This item is OP {when used with discharge, just about anything else is total crap single target and can be beat by MANY other builds with maybe 10 exalt instead of the 40+ I paid JUST FOR THE HAMMER}), that being said, I want to hunt for these things. GGG nerfs them like 95% of the population can get one... It is the chase for something like this that keeps me playing. I know some people can get one in a week or less (those that know the market AND can play for 8+ hours a day) but for me, this is a long term goal. I am lucky to make 40 exalts in three months. I probably play about the same amount of time in those three months that the top 1% plays in a week though.

So in short, I get sick of this KICK ASS carrot being dangled in front of me, but when I get close they take away the carrot. THEN they show me a different carrot and tell me to chase that one only to the same result. I am so sick of the nerfing of the top 10% of uniques. I rage quit for months on end every time my carrot gets taken away. And no, that nibbled on carrot that is left for me to claim isn't what I want. I don't want this GODLY unique that I have seen used by top streamers for MONTHS that is now half as effective. It is outright bullshit and ruins the chase for me. It is bad enough you destroy my build every three to six months (meta shifts) but to take away my chase is just bullshit.

You can not argue that Mjolner breaks the game when 99% of the people playing will never obtain one. Stop taking away stuff that destroys the hardest content in the game in ten seconds.

RANT ends here.

Side topic. I don't want the game easier. You might think that from my "no nerf" mentality, but it isn't true. I want this game to punish me into the ground. I want to battle my ass off for a year or more (at my current playtime) in order to finally kill atziri and uber atziri. That being said, I want there to be items that I can get EVENTUALLY that absolutely wrecks her. I want a boss that I spend 300 hours trying to beat, and then 600 hours after that I come back and wreck her so hard that I laugh that she was ever hard.

When you take away those items that let me do that, I stop carring. If I wanted brutal difficulty there are TONS of other games I could play. I like this one because it is brutal until you get the knowledge AND the god tier items (read uniques, no one has time to get mirrored items -yes, I know people do, but many of us don't have that kind of TIME-) then you feel like a God.

Give me punishing content, but let me overcome it. Push out even HARDER content if you want to keep the 1% people busy. I am content with being 3 uber bosses behind the best of the best. However, I am not content to work my arse off for months to be able to do what they can do, only to have you take away the items that let me do that. It is Bullshit of the highest level. It isn't bad enough that I can watch them destroy content and know they can play this game ten hours a day when I have to work, you have to make it so I can never get the gear that they got. I am sick of it. Really REALLY sick of it.
I guess I will have to buy a one way ticket to hell with your lives
i will quit if the user interface without the globe ladies isn't optional.
seeing the new user interface (to make it scary, throw a skull at it) just killed my motivation to play and depresses me beyound belief.

AH is desperately needed. 99% of the time I cant even sell shit because im offline. I know this is the case because I have like 10 friend invites from ppl i never heard of when i get back on line. As long as i'm online and actively trading I get rich easy. I got like 30 UBER drops in my shop but havnt sold a single one in two months because I have not really played in two months.

BTW nothing against PoE I have not played any game in ~two months too busy but even when I start playing again the 1-2 hrs a day 5-6hrs on weekend I am able to put in I dont really feel like trading in that limited time frame. Would be nice to 100% farm and sell offline.
