Remove-only stash tab change problems part 2

With that many items saved up, and I'm going to assume that they're all top-notch quality because why else would you want to save up that many items right? , and such an amount of tabs I must ask; What could you possibly need more space for on Standard?

Sure it's very helpful to get extra tabs for the 1-month / 4 month leagues and you'll get the extra empty ones there but unless you're dedicated to playing on standard I don't see why it would prevent you from getting more space for future leagues?

This is coming from someone that's yet to buy additional tabs so maybe there's some special value to having dozens of "most likely average items that you may or may not use again" tabs as remove only that I don't know about yet ?
I'll just repost Chris answer to my mail about this issue (note the bold part).

Thanks for the mail!

The core problem here is how our stash code works. There's no way to choose which tab is upgraded, which causes a problem in some circumstances where users can receive an unlimited number of stash tabs (without having to do any races). The change to how the stash tab purchases work (where it increases your entitlement of real tabs, rather than forceably generating a real one each time) was to fix that. We're not really concerned with people using read-only tabs as long-term storage like they have been doing.

I'm not completely happy with the solution and want to find a better one.

Kind regards,
Chris

Throw away crafting material because "space"? You aren't making much sense. If OP is going to do some mapping, he'll need those whetstones for chisel recipe. If he's gonna do some Dominus farmin, he's ganna need all those scrolls...

"ditch stuff you don't immediately use" is short-term shoppers mentality.

You read like someone who saves every old newspaper because they might need to read them again 20 years from now.

He said he wanted to get 1 character 10 lvls further. He could easily sell the 1k transmutes or scraps for scrolls. It's unnecessary hoarding, plain and simple.

Now, I do agree that the leftmost tab should always be the bought one, but saying a player who doesn't intend on staying in standard indefinitely needs all that junk should keep it because he may use those at some point is ridiculous
I wish currency would have unlimited stack size with some balancing... handling currency is pain in the ass as it is... Players would focus more on gameplay and less on things like alchemy orbs stacking by 1, lol :-)
In general, I would like to see the random upgrades be made choices. E.g. if I buy upgrades from normal to premium tabs, a stack of tokens would appear in my mtx stash I can then use to upgrade the tabs I want. Could work the same way with choosing between making a RO tab a regular one or adding new tabs by adding e.g. a [+] icon to the stash interface. I could then rightclick on the mtx and on the RO tab to make it a regular one or on the [+] to add a new empty tab. Everybody happy. :-)

Ok, so I can keep my RO tabs for long term storage. At least we got one answer from GGG as to whether RO tabs are to be viewed as short or long term storage. We still need to know if there is a low maximum total cap on total tabs (if it's coded as an unsigned 16-bit integer then we get 65,535 so it will never be an issue but as of now we don't know).

The big and real question that Chris and GGG is sidestepping is that right now I can't keep my RO tabs from my 3 four month leagues as long term RO storage (I am in the process of downsizing so no more "I have way too much junk" posts please) and then buy additional storage space to play one of my former Ambush League characters and have new space to store more orbs in. The new stash tabs are going to take a RO tab that Chris has just stated to you: "We're not really concerned with people using read-only tabs as long-term storage like they have been doing." and convert it to a normal tab. Am I the only one seeing the huge logic flaw here that GGG has created with this change in how newly purchased stash tabs are used? Chris' statement is comforting in that I can take my own sweet time to consolidate and eliminate RO tabs worth of loot that is standard vendor trash. But I can't decide that I need more space to store maps or additional gems or whatever if I play a standard build and then want addition (not converted remove-only tabs because Chris is on record as stating I can keep the RO tabs as long term storage) new storage space.

 So which is it GGG?

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

Well, if I can eventually craft a house out of those newspapers, you bet I'll save them up. That's what I can do in PoE - saving up craftign material for future use.

Also, there is much decent swag, excess from Dom/Nem and current leagues, that right now I don't think I'll use or cant find a use for or I'm not interested in finding a use for. But who knows what I'll be wanting in half a year from now? Or which new builds that could use item X will come out in the future. Or which unique will get legacied and become invaluable (as collector item, not shopping gameplay)...

And that, in a nutshell, is the point of RO tabs as a mean to support long-term PoE play.

And you can do that. The point he's making is that it's fine for them being them for long term storage (you don't have to use it or lose it).

Yours is a fringe case. For me, it's a benefit that they can just transfer to normal tabs after a league ends. I don't have to fuss with them anymore.

Like I suggested earlier, if the leftmost tab became the new tab, would that be ok? That way, you can pick and choose at will.

I've been repeating this for two days now - yes that would be totally ok. It's only fair that the player at least gets to choose.
