Duelist with bows?

From what I have seen playing on my friend's account, the Duelist rocking the bow can carry a lot more armor then a Ranger. Armor isn't everything, but it sure helps and then you have the option to rock a deadly dual wield if you find some legit one handed weapons. And plus it is cool to play as a guy archer instead of a chick.... cheers.

I began this thread because I believe most of players will try the duelist with dual weapon, which is cool, but personally I want to try the "long range way".

By the way, is there crossbows in the game? Since Duelist is a Dexterity/Strength class, crossbows sounds like a good weapon for him, imho.

I remade my ranger (lv30) as a duelist (lv28 now) and so far I feel its been an easier ride, my hp wasn't getting knocked in half if something hit me.

Now I'm wondering how viable endurance charges are (he's 28 but I've got 5 points on the back burner) since I'm a duelist.. why not? Is enduring cry a good way to generate charges? keeping in mind I use a bow.

edit, I think I'm 11 levels away from the crit = endurance charge passive... but I pick up useless stuff(3 melee dmg nodes) to get to it.

Of course this is all going to change in the next patch but hey, I want something to do now.

38 now (points spent, 1 away from EC) and I've did the planning, I took the 16 steps route, seems more beneficial/flexible if I felt I wanted to go back to the dex tree sooner instead of stacking life.

I made a Ranger for hardcore but ended up switching to Duelist with a bow. For Default league it might not matter, but in hardcore I found that I really wanted:

1. A few health boosting passives
2. Not to be so heavily reliant on evasion, since with evasion, bad luck = death.

The duelist has been having a much easier time of it. Sure, he does slightly less damage since I'm splitting my passives between strength and dexterity, but the evasion/armor gear is giving me a good mix of defense, I've got about twice as many hp as my ranger had, and I also haven't run into any stat problems (yet) with being able to equip bows.

Of course, all this will probably change in 0.9.3.

If I get a key, I am definately going for Duelist.

Diablo had the enchantress, but they seriously nurfed her abiblities in that aspect. That direction was a lost cause as there was only one fire skill that Maxed at 3k damage with end game gear. Ranged weapons only do 1/3 fire dame as well.

I was very much looking forward to building an enchantress arch type in poe.
Ability to enchant your weapon, and then diverge into some attack speed and critical strike mods would be the deal breaker for me.

Of what I can see energy shield and armor would be enough without having to spread your passive points further trying to go for defensive mods as well.

Well, for those outside closed beta, what morrello stated above WAS true but it was changed with patch 0.9.3b, which added some changes in the passive skill tree, to enable Duelists to reach bow passive skills sooner.

So far, I am enjoying my char ^^.

So is it enjoyable/viable to play a Bow-duelist now? Just got my beta-invite and was thinking of making one.

Lvd mine to lv 42 / Ruthless(HC) and I must say he´s very viable and fun.
No problems so far..
The Bow passives are very good placed for a Bow duelist now.
1 shoot blues with crit.
Have got both Armor master/iron reflexes keystones.

No "super" gear , but works very well.
